Question Detached face stereos

Are these really theft deterrent? Im thinking about getting one, but I've heard of people getting them stolen even without the faceplate so im kinda iffy on it. Please share your thoughts.

well a smart theif wouldnt steal it, it wont work with out it....if you turn power off from your sterio with out the face plate on it should ask for either a preset code or one you change it to, i think any ways...how my kenwood is.

I'm sure it is a deterrent since the deck does not work without the face. However, theives will steal anything and most people are too lazy to take the face with them. They think leaving the face in the console or glovebox will work.

I think it works to discourage potential thiefs. But like EW said most people just take them off and put then elsewhere in the car which defeats the whole purpose of the detachable face. But most thiefs will glance and not "see" a face for it and just choose a car where it's all their in easy access. I just leave my faceplate on. Fuck, if the want to steal it, they want to, no stopping them at the 2 am when I'm alseep.
