Need help wiring stereo, I'm a novice....

Alright, first let me admit I know jack about stereo's....I spend all my time under the hood. I've got a '92 LX that I'm trying to install a run-of-the-mill stereo in. Nothing fancy, just something I had laying around (older Kenwood with tape!).
the car still has the factory radio wiring...unfortunately, the previous owner has the "black" plug cut off (I believe there are two plugs which go into the back of a stock '89-'92 black, one grey). The wires are still there however. Or, were there originally 3 plugs? (Like on a '93).
My question is, can I keep the factory amp wired in place? It is still mounted behind the console and plugged in.
Second question, from what I have figured out so far, the grey plug has the power and ground wires, and the black plug is the speaker wires. Is this correct? What I can do is take pictures this evening when I get home from work and post them up....maybe someone can give me a radio101 install lessona dn tell me which wires go where on my stereo. I can't find my damn Hanes manual to look at a wiring diagram.

LF Speaker +/- org/lt. grn - lt. blue/wht
RF Speaker +/- wht/lt. grn - green/orange
LR Speaker +/- gray/lt. blue - tan/yellow
RR Speaker +/- orange/red - brown/pink

that should be right. there are 2 plugs, most likely the gray (powers) and black (speakers) like you said. good luck
