Installing new head unit in 02 Tahoe

Ok, I got a question, i've done plenty of systems in my time and haven't heard of nething like this, but a couple people have told me this. If you change the head unit on a newish tahoe, you have to keep the stock radio one hooked up and hide it somewhere because somehow it ties in with the ignition...and the car won't start if it's taken out.. Anybody know anything on this?? Thanx, Matt

It will run and drive fine with a different radio, they have nothing to do with the ignition system unless someone isn't doing the install properly.

Now if you have factory Bose and rear seat controls it's a little complicated but you can still swap radios. Don't think they offered Bose in 02 on Tahoes though.

BP, i believe you are talking about the "data" systems on the 03-04 gm stuff.

Right, I know my 03 Avalanche with the Bose took some extra special work to get it going.

Radio, dipshit.

I believe it's Radio Data System or something similar.

RDS is a feature that allows the display to show channel call letters, song titles, artist info, etc while listening to a local broadcast. There should be a small RDS logo on the face of the radio if yours has it.
