as you know dfwstangs if its no top of the line its crap.

But in the real world, you can run a headunit w/ a built in xover it sounds very good. Add some subs in the trunk and you have yourself a very cheap good sounding system. w/o a built in xover in the H/U yes, it will sound very, very bad and you are better off w/ the stock H/U.

Been there done that (at least 40 - 50 times), and it always sounded crappy.

Take my word for it as a "normal" person it's a great way to put togeather a decent sounding system on the cheap untill you can afford all the expensive aftermarket, stuff from EW that Samhain would agree with.

Some people on this board have to realize 2 things:

(1) - Not everyone can afford to go out and buy all the peices to make a kick ass stereo system at once.

(2) - 4.10s aren't for everyone

we realize that.

you can have a badass sounding system for less than 1 thousand dollars.

you can have a system that sounds better than 80% of everybody else's stereo for 600$.

it's all in how you spend your money.

You can replace the headunit in the 99 cobra with no problem. It does require an interface ($50) but that's it. I also recommend running the deck RCA level into the factory system and using a line driver for more signal.

Remember that 94-00 is the 3 outboard amps (one runs 4 tweeters, the other two run a pair of the 5x7's each) so if the speakers are ok, it will sound ok. The problems arise in 01+ cars where the deck drives the factory tweeters. I had my 98 running rca level for years with no issues. It wasn't the best sound but it was tolerable. If you have a highpass crossover and/or line driver, sub amp, and subwoofer, the system will sound better.

Here are two different ways to do it for 94-00 Mach460:
1. Speaker level: you need a Peripheral FDA5589 interface. It has the proper plugs to plug into the factory harness.
2. RCA level: if you have at least 4V preouts on your deck, use a Peripheral SVEN4 and a BHA5511 harness.

All wiring is done in the dash except later cars will need a 5V turn on for amps.

So if one was to want to change the double deck set up to an aftermarket single deck, keeping all the other stock stuff, make a list of what all should be done to
'rig it right"

Go down and talk to EW, he'll sell you the kit you need to add a deck and give very helpfull advice on what to get. (he makes great deals for dfwstangs members).

If you want to use the factory amps and speakers, then get a deck w/ a high pass filter or use a X-over. Then you can add the sub(s) and sub amp of your choice w/ an aftermarket deck.

Then if it sounds like "butt" you can always add another amp or 2 and aftermarket speakers down the road. Saving you the expense of buying it all at once.

The only thing I did not list that you might want is a factory storage pocket to replace the cassette deck.
