Question Why are people so F**KING PROUD of their Mustangs?

Seriously. I love Mustangs (as I love all performance machines), but I see people on here selling 10-15 year-old cars with way over 100k miles on them for over $6000. I know these were great cars, but damn....

not flaming, just curious...for just over 1/2 that much, you can get a lot of badass cars that age, including 350 TPI F-bodies. Just wondering why Mustangs of this vintage are so expensive...

Never hurts to try to get as much as possible. Fox bodies in good shape are getting hard to find around here.

Few reasons come to mind.

performance potential
strong/tough pushrod engine, easy to work on
ford ain't making them any more with 5.0's
the supply of clean, straight, unmolested cars shrinks every day
low cost to modify

and the list goes on.

Hey, I do feel for you. There are some cars on HERE especially that they are smoking some sh*t to ask the prices they do. I just recently sold my 93 Black Coupe 97% perfect and now I am looking for another and some of these people's cars don't even add up to half of what I have and they want the same price. I just laugh and move on. The only way to go is pay the price or build one of your own and just keep it as you will never get out of it what you put in.

I picked up my 90GT and $3K, and have been offered $5K for it as it sits. I'm the second owner, car was original when I got it. 82K miles on it.

Exactly, it is the demand for the cars here...

I bought a 92 Coupe for $3,800 in Louisana, put about $1,500 into it, and sold it for $6,700 6 months after I bought it. It had the stock motor and over 155K miles on it as well. The damn cars just keep going up in value. I am holding on to both of my foxes as long as I can, because I doubt I will ever find a nicer one, cheaply.

Wow. I'm stunned by the intelligence in here. Got maybe 5 lucid replies from this thread. Glad that brand loyalty is so important to you "performance minded" nimrods. I wasn't even flaming, seeing as I OWN A FUCKING MUSTANG, but I got shit on. Oh well. Live and learn.

BTW, when I said "I know a near-stock TPI that'll make you keep laughing..." I sure wasn't referring to my CARBURETED 400. Simple buddy of mine with an '88 GTA, minimal mods, small shot, running 8.0 at Kennedale. That's respectable, I figure.

If you'll check around you will find that the Fox body is the most sought after performance car on the road today. They have a very distinctive look and are quite collectable.............PLUS............they're still around and Camaros and Firebirds have gone the way of extinction............lmao

Excuse me guys, for some reason you all have a superiority complex. Mustang does not equal greatness. And if yours is modified, and you beat a stock car, does it really make a difference? Kinda goes up there with saying "my heavily modified mustang will beat your stock camaro" with a reply of, "ok, after you beat my stock camaro, you can race my stock F-16."

If im not mistaking, by 1990 the Mustang GT, and an IROCZ L98 were almost a dead match in the 1/4. With the IROC being the most pleasurable to drive of the 2, and being able to out handle the GT by a landslide. And as far as my preference goes, I prefer the f-body to the mustang due to its performance and its design. It has a more vintage muscle car look than the mustang, which looks like a fly on a winshield.

You can try to burn me all you want but the proof is there, reviews have been made, in the late 80's and early 90's the 3rd gen f-body finally got more performance and since 93 to 02 the f-body danced circles around the mustang. Funny, now that there is no competition, ford is comming out with all these diffrent versions of the mustang. BTW, the f-body may not be made anymore, but its far from extinct.

Hey, now. My old 87 GTA w/TPI use to bust Mustangs asses all over the place. You just didn't see alot of the 350 TPI motors in the 80's. It was mostly the 305 TPI. But behind a 5-speed that 305 TPI would run off and leave the Mustangs too.

True, the TPI305 w/5spd was also a good car but limited due to its displacement. In response to the original post. I got my L98 Z28 for 3k with 130k on it. It runs like its new. At 128k, it pulled a 14.4 for the 1st run, mostly stock, aside from knn's and a catback. It has a rebuilt tranny, and a worn out posi with stock 3.23's. I have seen mustangs run faster, but i have also seen them run slower. So no reason to bash on the TPI 350's

Come on Chad, thats bull shit and you know it! In the late 80's early 90's fox bods ran the show. THere was nothing that could hold them. My friend Sean did every thing he could to his tpi 350, and he still had to drive it like he stole it to barley nose out a coupe, and that was on the hose!

I'm talking stock vs stock. It could have been driver error on the Mustang guys at the time. But, I beat quite a few of them in it. There was another guy that had a 305 TBI with a 5-speed that would beat my lightly modded 94 LT1, and his had very little mods. Needless to say I was impressed.

I will admit though. The late 80's to early 90's the Mustangs were the car to beat. You just didn't see to many 350's in the F-bodys through that period because Mustangs were so hot on the market.

I remember a few friends' cars at A&M.. they bought up ex-police Camaros, like '91-92 models.

They were 305/5spds with 3.42s (rear discs) and crank windows, etc. The fastest one went 14.5s with a Flowmaster cat back and anything he could do that was free. And his car would wail on ANY 350/auto car - those were real turds. So, I'd say that's not real impressive.

HOWEVER, my friend bought an '88 Vette with the 4+3 tranny at auction. It would barely run because it had a shattered hypereutectic piston in it. He wanted to just replace the one piston, but come to find out, a set of TRW forged flat tops cost less than one original GM piston. So he put them in (made compression right around 10.75:1), did a few tricks like bigger TPI runners, home ported the heads, and put a tiny cam in it (like 214/218 if memory serves). Plus a little spray.

It laid down over 700 lbs/ft at 800rpm on a 125 shot.

It was funny that all the graphs would peak instantly, then go down. That's why they were spraying it at 800rpm.

Anything with that many cubes and alum heads has SOME potential. But the induction and cams just sucked horribly on those all TPI motors. Not to mention 3rd gen Camaros are notoriously flimsy cars and not a great start for a project.

The guy I am talking about ran 8.9's in his 305TPI. He posts on the board as Bighungry6969. As for a 3rd Gen not being a good car to start with I will have to disagree. Those cars freaking hook!! A buddy of mine had an 83 camaro with a 383 stroker and his car would hook up in gravel!!lol It ran 6's and had to be one of the best street cars I new of back in the day.

It laid down over 700 lbs/ft at 800rpm on a 125 shot.

And how long did that motor last before your friend blew it the fuck up?

I just laugh and move on. The only way to go is pay the price or build one of your own and just keep it as you will never get out of it what you put in.

My .02
thats what I'm doing I bought mine with clean interior and a minor wrecked fender and front bumper. Along with a few minor things missing like a sidemarker, centercap and etc. Now its in the process of being finished up and getting a paint job.

He hasn't ever had an issue with the engine since he put it together. Maybe you got the idea that he just slapped it all together, but he is very methodical and knows what he's doing. He and his father have been building Chrysler Hemis for years. Last I saw, he was daily driving the Vette (6yrs later) and had a '71 Duster with a blown 392 in it. But he has replaced several OD units in that 4+3 tranny and had to replace a u-joint in the rear end when he put a set of slicks on it.
