Pretty cool. Takes a shitload of cement to make one of those overpasses!

They've done studies you know.... 60% of the time, it works every time

Thumbs up

Badass pics!

Funny how different it is now, huge clusterfuck in some areas, and how built out everything is now...

It is wierd. My grandmas old place was built in 1955. My dad remembers it being "out in the country" Now it's a fucking rats nest of fucking bullshit and everything else the east Dallas area has to offer.

Crazy to have highways with no center dividers! No wonder so many died back then!

What's even funnier is the fact that all the highways in FTW STILL look like those pictures......Guess Dallas left FTW behind a little?

If by "left behind" you mean more crime, more pollution, more traffic, more buildings, and more shitty people, then yes.

Wow. That's awesome! Thanks, Danny. I've always been interested in finding old pics like that. I just never got around to it. Living in Arlington all my life, I've wanted to find pics of what different areas of the city looked like back then compared to now. I need to work on that.

Hey Jimmy, does this look like I-20 over by your house to you? I think it may be mislabeled, or maybe they considered this 820 at the time? Looks JUST like your stretch of I-20 (by Little Rd, etc.) to me...

I like the Landmark Tower in all its digital clock glory.

Is that four way interchange the old Fort Worth mixmaster?

It took me a while but that exit pictured foremost is the eastbound Randol Mill exit just a half mile north of John T. White Rd. That bridge they are driving over crosses that little lake off the Trinity River. The bridge in the distance is Trinity Parkway, sans the industrial park to the left.

Ford Plant Employees- 1930

Look at the caption I found to this:
Sometime after the Ford Motor Plant was built on East Grand Avenue in 1924, my grandfather, Herman H. Butler, went to work there. This photo of a group of Ford Company employees, was taken on August 22, 1930. My grandfather is on the second row, second from the right. The identities of all the other men in this photo are unknown to me. Ironically, my grandfather never owned a car. He either used public transportation or rode a bicycle and since he lived so close to the Ford Plant (about two blocks away), he could easily walk to work.

X2 - I-20's completion was in the early/middle 70's anyway.

LOL...I drive this everyday (wish the traffic was that good!)

BTW - this is looking east on I-30 - Arlington Heights High School is on the right, and that bridge is Hulen Street...

This would also be around the time a young Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr went to school there...his father, Henry J. Deutschendorf, Sr, an Air Force Pilot stationed at nearby Carswell Air Force Base, set 6 land speed records in a B-58 Hustler at Edwards Air Force base in 1960. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. is better known today as John Denver.

History class dismissed...

Yeah, I can see it too. It looks like an eastbound shot of I-20, the first two bridges being those that pass over the little southernmost fingers of Lake Arlington(which are basically dry now) and then the overpass in the distance being Bowman Springs, but the other guys are right. Shit like that is cool as hell.
