How to add a shock sensor to the stock alarm on a 4.6L Mustang
By Robert
Pictured below are the schematics to the TATS system. Also a picture of the hood pin switch (Ford P/N 19A434 $13.14). The screws are Ford P/N N611036-S36 (2 ea @ $1.15). If you have a '96, that makes things much easier. The harness was completely removed on the '97 and later models and requires running wires to the trunk. Next to the Left Hand Strut Tower, you will find a connector that the hood pin switch plugs in to. Bolt the switch bracket in place, plug in the switch. Simple as that.

To add a shock sensor, it will need to be spliced into the wire harness. I would suggest the Trunk Tamper Detection Circuit (Tan/Light Green wires on the TATS connector in the trunk).

The prime mounting location, from all those I have talked with, is location, from all those I have talked with, is the steering column. Seems to be the standard location. Any vibration is amplified by the extened column. The wires can be run along the bottom of the door jam, under the carpet and the plastic molding. Schematics for the shock sensor are provided with the unit.

It is a fairly self contained device not needing much external connections. It can be as simple as adding power, a ground, and the two output wires (switched) to be spliced in to the existing alarm system (TATS). The one I have also has a two stage sensor. A pre-alarm (smaller siren) can be wired to give a "chirp" if the car is lightly bumped. A harder thump will trigger the main switch and in turn, triggers the TATS.

I ordered the shock sensor from a mail order company called Tech America (1-800-877-0072). They will send you a free catalog full of electronic goodies or you can simply order the sensor. It is P/N 980-0119, UT-B2 Dual Stage Shock Sensor. The price is $12.99 (bargain!).
