I'm 34. I served in the Air Force during Operation Just Cause and Desert Storm. This is the first time in my life that I have experienced being a civilian during time of war. I feel left out. I want back in. I'm tired of sitting on the sidelines. Am I too old now? Would they want me back?
How do you feel? Am I the only one? |

I felt that way after I first got out, and I was only in for 3 years. Hell, its' been about 6 yrs since I've been out, and I still feel weird being uncovered outside. Texas Guard will take you till age 59......

*sigh* me too
I know how you feel, only I got left out both times. I was in boot camp during Desert Storm and missed the whole thing. I have learned so much about Desert Storm and what went on since Op Iraqi Freedom started. I would have over 12 years in the Marine Corps had it not been for an unfortunate back injury. And you can bet your ass I would be over there now!!! if only.....
I felt the same way that you do, so I got up, went to the craft store, and bought some jewelry making stuff and have been making patriotic jewelry and pins. They have been selling like pancakes and the money is going buy games and entertainment type things for care packages. I have made over $100 in one weekend for the cause. I am including a letter and Psalm 121 with the shipment. I feel much better, because I feel like I am actually doing something to help. Hope this inspires you to do something too.

A big ol' bad ass Marine (male) trying to thread a beading needle!!! They are only about as thin as the thread you have to use. Oh, or tying bows out of yellow ribbon. What a hoot!
Btw, I have 2 care packages ready to go out today! Yeah!!!! And have the funds to get 2 more ready later in the week. I am kickin' booty and takin' names. I have also received many more orders for ribbons and jewelry. Thank goodness my tests are over this week. I think I passed my calculus exam this week. With all that is going on, I'm thankful if I can just get by with C's. I think I did fail my Physics test yesterday. Anyway, Aaron, I think joining the Marines in our nations time of need is the most noble thing you could do. 01WC, Its ok, I am constantly having to remove my foot from my mouth. No offense taken.

GTek,
If I am correct, you can still enlist in the reserves or national guard. Age limitations for those are waived for each year of active duty military service I believe. You probably can get in at your old rank (or higher in the National Guard). I tried to re-enlist on 9/13/2001 but got turned down because of my medical discharge from the Regular Army.

i served our great nation from 3/88 - 1/94. i am a veteran of Just Cause, Desert Storm, and Restore Hope/Task Force Ranger. i started in the 101st, but joined the 3rd Ranger Batt in early 1990. to be honest, it is killing me to be at home watching this crap on TV. i wasnt so badly to be there. most of my old unit is either still in Afghanistan or sitting at Benning waiting on a new OPORD. i have pretty much given up that way of life, as i am now a doctor in residency, but i still have the desires to be with my Rangers....and fellow American soldiers. the pictures/vids of the dead US soldiers brings back some haunting memories that i thought i had forgotten. especially the young soldier laying dead outside the maintenance truck. nobody likes to see dead US soldiers, but it really hits home to those who have served in wartime. they are family at that point.
it really pisses me off to see the people talking bad about our country, our president and his decision on going to war. those people are lucky they live in the US. if your little brother gets into a fight somewhere, nomatter what you have his back...correct? well, your brothers are fighting right now. the results of which are not a black eye and sore pride, but the most important thing that an individual has....his life! those boys are dying over there. i personally feel that our tactics of not wanting to hurt civilians and taking many POWs is hurting our efforts of a swift victory. well enough of that! God Bless the USA and our troops in combat. david |

Again this is NTOSVOs wife.
I work with the Army Recruiters and yes you can join the military. What they do is subtract the number of years that you were active duty military from your age. ARMY KICKS BUTT!!!

If any of you guys want to go Army - send me a PM and I'll get you my recruiters contact info - I ship out on May 14th, and my recruiter has been absolutely awesome, a complete 180 from what the typical stereotype is of a military recruiter...

I'm pretty glad I'm out now, I was in from the middle of the Reagan era 'til halfway through BlowJobBill's sentence and once Clitoris, I mean Clinton got in all they wanted was pencil necked geeks, hell I humped a hawg and 81mm barrel for 3 years cause I was man enough to handle it. The newer generation had a bad tendency to fall out on the humps, even if all they carried was a -16.
