Operation Care Package--DFWstangs

I am interested to see who would be interested in sending care packages to some of the soldiers deployed. I know we have several veterans on the board, so we could send them to the sections of these veterans.

I was informed that due to terrorism they have stopped any soldier mail, as a single soldier this got me through a few rough times, and having been deployed I know the value of a care package.

We have weekly GTG's maybe we could use these to gather items for the soldiers who are defending our country right now.

The items I most remember needing are:
Snacks
Anything to read
soap--did 2 month's without a shower--Desert Storm
a simple letter
Paper/Envelopes

Is anyone interested in anything like this?

Koolade Packets presweetened
vitamins and supplements
chapstick
paperbacks and magazines
comic strips out of the paper
real toilet paper
handi wipes, individual packets are great
letters of support, they really help

Try and send the packages to units that actually see action, don't let the pogues or REMFs get all the good stuff like what happened in Shield/Storm. Do some research and send them to the Tanks, Guns, and really the infantry, they see the worst of the combat, the front line. An example would be Mortars squad Fox company, 2nd Bn., 8th Marine Regiment or 81s platoon Weapons Co. 1st Bn. 8th Marine Regiment. (these are my old units)

i would be very happy to contribute. as the military would not take me due to my diabetes, this is one way i can show support for our men and women giving thier very lives. tell me what i can do. i think the gtg's are a great place for people to bring stuff and give it to a designated person to send it out. lets all get in on this and do whatever we can to help our troops and make the lives just a bit easier. anyone that thinks this is not a good idea is just about a sorry person in my opinion.

I made about $100 this past weekend making and selling patriotic ribbons. PM me and I can buy some stuff for you to send. I made so much from the ribbons that I felt bad in keeping the money because I dont want to profit off of other peoples suffering. So, I am going to buy some handheld electronic games to send out. Let me know how many you want/need. I'll throw in the batteries too. I have a letter made out to send that includes Psalm 121 and an address for soldiers to write to if they dont have anyone else to write to. So, just drop me a line and I will do whatever I can.

First, let me thank everyone who has responded through Posting/PM/and E-mail. I am working on getting a few addresses right now from my old unit in the 3rd Infantry Division.

I am currently working with a POC in Ft. Campbell Ky to get the IDIVIDUAL address for a few soldiers who are now deployed. We will send the boxes to those individuals, who will be notified ahead of time they are coming. This way the boxes will not be turned around.

I am also working on a POC for 3ID at Ft. Stewart, however ALL of my old unit has been deployed so I am still working on obtaining a POC.

Hope this helps, I have been contacted by a few people about this, and am currently working with Jose to arrange a date for a GTG/Drop off for the item's. Once he sets a date he will notify us of it.

Again today the govt is asking Americans to stop sending stuff and asking that donations are made to USO. They did say "unsolicited" mail, packages, etc. They said the reason is that after the 9/11 anthrax that this is a security issue. We need to verify that what we send will make it to the person we send it to.

I have contacted several people about obtaining addresses, however they have not contacted me back. I currently have only 2 addresses 1 for my Platoon SGT from Germany who is currently in IRAQ, and a friend who is in Kuwait. So it may be best just to gather the items at the GTG at Pappa's and turn them over to the USO.

Any input would be appreciated.

I am on active duty and have several friends deployed to the Middle East. I can get direct addresses and names of soldiers from our LRSU, MI Battalion, and Theater Command folks. I live in Georgia but I am stationed at Ft Huachuca AZ working for CENTCOM. For those of you from Texas who may not know, your 49th Division guys are deployed here for base/border security and probably at a couple of other bases as well. If you guys want to get their info as well, I can check on them too. They are sharp guys and just got back from Bosnia a year ago.

Hi, my husband is over in Iraq right now. We're out of Fort Hood. 4th I.D.If you would like I could get some information for you. His battalion is right up in the action, 1-67 Armor. They are in Baquaba, Northeast of Baghdad. If there is any information at all you would like me to get I would try and get it for you. By the way the soldiers do still receive packages. People sometimes inspect them but they do send them.

Hey Im on the Uss Roosevelt CVN71. Our a/c carrier is in the yards right now. But i have plenty of friends and family members that are over seas!! We tried to start this up when Afghanistan first got going, but had some problems getting addresses etc. So I got with another board member and sent a few packages to a guy I knew who was over there.

I don't know how old this is or if you guys have already sent stuff to the military....but I am currently in Kuwait working directly for the 160th Signal Brigade. I send my teams up north for installations of "stuff". If you guys are still needing addresses feel free to ask. Whatever site you need...I have the address. My current APO is: HHC 160th Sig Bde, APO AE 09366. I will do as much as possible to get these guys anything extra. Right now we aren't allowed to leave the base...so it would be good to get stuff for these guys/gals from anyone and everyone. Definatly helps their moral!!! If ya'll are still sending stuff, I can provide an address for Victory Base - Iraq. It is where I'm at now. I am a contractor but would be more then happy to distribute it to the troops in my area.

Be advised though, that they do get care packages from families and other donors and typically do not write back to say "thanks", due to being busy. Plus, most are too young to realize how much of a pain in the arse it is getting stuff together. Not to mention the S&H costs.

Snacky things (sunflower seeds, chips, cookies, etc..sealed packages though)

Well, that is about all I can think of right at the moment. I know the above stuff will get used for sure. Just remember, always sealed packages.

My first post here, just joined the site I am stationed in California, and just got back from OIF II-1. They are going to be a little busy over the next few days, but I know the unit I was with, they appreciated bulk mail and it was never a problem.

Oh and to the person that said something about pogues and REMF's, you really need to watch your mouth, lot of those REMF's are making sure the frontline guy's are getting the ammo to make those guns and tanks go bang, and I am frontline myself also.

hello all, if you really wish to help any soldiers, you can go to anysoldier.com and adopt a soldier from the web site, you can see their profiles, and a list of what they need. batteries are not needed, that seemed to be the most commonly listed thing on the site, i am at F.O.B. Marez in Mosul, and we have about 30,000 aaa, 41,000 aa, and tons of kodak 3volts. big things are beef jerky, snacks that are small and can be eaten quick.candy is great, the stuff we get is usually from Turkey, or Syria. we have tons of gum and baby wipes in fact if you need some we will send you boxes full of them.the biggest thing we need is support at home, even a simple letter of thanks goes a long way. i have been here 11 months and some change, i am now awaiting my flight back to Ft. Lewis WA. i get out in sept 06 and will be back in dallas. thanks to you all for the thought and desire to help it makes the job we do worth the price we sometimes pay. Spc. I disagree. Batteries from the states are sooooo needed. It really depends on where you are and what resource you have available at that particular FOB. If you buy them at the PX they may last a few days or maybe a week.

Ooooh, I wanna help, too!!! I have exhausted the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts here, as most all of the evacuees in Dallas now have alternative housing and are recieving gov't aid and such.

I wasn't ever on the frontlines, but I did a Kuwait tour back in '96, when Camp Doha housed the USAF and we could go to the Marble Palace to relax, but I remember mostly being homesick and DYING to get letters from home.

Someone update me on what the status of this project is???

Hi me and my wife are both currently in IRAQ right now we are serving on two different FOB's, she is with RCT-5 Marines and i am Attached to an Intel shop and like stated early about grunts and pogs that not exactly true man i have been outside the wire all the damn time and just like the grunts we all work really long hours and dont always have a chance to go to the PX's and when you do all you really want to do is sleep, so watch what ya say man because yes the grunts are out there alot but do come back to base and sleep like the rest. So for you all dont just forget the others because they are not grunts, me myself i have been blessed with a great family who sends what i need but i see others all the time who havent even gotten a package or a single letter, and a really good thing out here to get is phone cards because they charge you out the ass to use the AT&T phone center here to call home. I will be more than pleased to help with address and things to send for the Marines and Saliors out here who need a friend from back home. John

Right now I am stationed down at Ft. Hood in the 3d ACR. I am scheduled to deploy in late august-early september. I am a 19D Cavalry Scout. Once I get over there, I will be able to be a POC, but until then I have a friend in the 1st Cav who is a front line. He is a Platoon Sgt and his wife is the FRG (Family Readiness Group) leader for his troop. As soon as I get back down to Hood (Jan 1) I will find out his information and he can be a POC. im new to this website as i was just told about it last night, im here cause i have a 66 that im restoring. as far as the care packages, a few thoughts. im in the army and spent a year in iraq in OIFIII. i was also in shield/storm. all those things are good but a bit outdated. while magazines and books never go out of style. we are in the computer age. EVERYONE has a laptop, even hadji. and playstations and gameboy etc. etc. one of the coolest packages my platoon was filled with dvd movies and music cd's. they werent the newest releases but we hadnt seen em. we could buy pirate dvd's at the hadji shop but they sucked, very poor quality. another thing are those 3v batteries. your flashligts both belt worn and weapons mounted use em. your nvgs and other things still use AA tho.
hand sanitizer is real good, you wear gloves , but damn, your hands always feel dirty, specially if ya have to search some guy in his man dress. just a few ideas, hope that helps some.

I agree, when i was in desert shield/desert storm we got the left overs and sometimes nothing for weeks until they opened a field PX, i was with US Army during this time, but there are soldiers and marines that dont have access to some of this stuff, so folks lets help them out.

I travel roughly 30 FOBs and FBs in the Afghanistan AO. Most of the ones that I get the pleasure of spending a week or more at are the bases that have only a handful of troops and these guys are the real warriors out here. If you need some addresses I can email my POC's for the basses and get you some solid places to send much needed goods. These guys do not have a PX, burn their own shit, are under water rations for showers and laundry and are the guys putting rounds on bad guys daily.

Care packs are great. I left my main site and forgot my tooth brush and toothpast. Luckily I found some care packs to sort thru and found what I needed.

Some ideas for stuff to send.

single serving candies
travel rolls of T/p
AAA batteries
el cheapo hand held video games
car magazines (we all have tons laying around)
packs of gum
travel sized hygene items, send a dozen of each per box, easier to divide up
ass wipes, plastic containers of baby wipes, same here send a dozen per box
pics of your ladies
just a few ideas
