Patriot missile question?
Do you think they work as good as what the news claims.
I heard somewhere (yea I know) that in the gulf war they only connected 1% of the time. I ask because they are claiming that we shot 2 out of 4 missiles down last night. I know we have advaced with leaps and bounds but thats like hitting a bullitt with a bullitt. I just hope the work as good as they claim for our troops in field.

The report is that 4 Scuds were fired into Kuwait. 2 of them were shot down by Patriots. There is no indication if Patriots were fired at the two other Scuds.
While you are correct about the Patriots shortcomings from the last war, there have been many improvements in the system this time around. For one, there is better data communication between the missile batteries and early warning platforms (AWACS or Joint STARS). Patriot batteries now know about the Scud almost immediately after it is fired. That gives them alot more lead time. Also the Patriot itself was improved. We shall see how improved as time goes by I guess.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2003Mar20.html However, I think the press is using SCUD as a generic term for any Iraqi surface to surface missile

The Hummers over there don't have LS1s, they have diesel engines.

States that the two missiles that were fired at Kuwait City had been shot down by Patriots. It took 3 patriots to bring down one of them and 1 patriot to bring down the other.
