I went by a local audio shop to just see whats new in car audio over the past two years, and I came across a set od digital amps from JL Audio. Do these amps really deliver a better signal and cleaner sound than the analog amps? Also does anyone make a 6" sub to replace the ones in the doors of the Mach systems?

What was the model of the amp? Was it one of the mono amps for subs (ie 250.1, 500.1 or 1000.1)?
And yes, there are many different 6-6.5 inch subs made that you can put in your car. James |

OK, here is the deal on D class amps.
Most amps are class AB, the signal is very clean but they are not very effecient, usually around 50-60% the rest goes up in heat. Class D amps are very effecient usually around 70-75%, but they are not as clean as AB amps. The difference in signal quality is very small though: AB .0005% D .005% Class D JL amps also only are designed to work only from 20-500 hz, which is fine for subs. JL Audio makes very good product and even though I don't carry the product, I got one of the amps from a jl dealer and put it in a customers car, pretty impressive. I work at Mobile Electronics in N. Arlington, 2274 N. Collins 817-265-1298 I will be here on Sat. from 9-5 James [This message has been edited by 89lx5.0 (edited 06-28-2001).] |

Put a 500/1 on 4-12W08's and a 300/4 on two pair of MB Quart speakers. That 500/1 FN BOOMS!

Screwed up amp
I just got a brand new 12w6v2 and a jl 1400d amp. I got everything hooked up and worked fine for a while. then the amp started to send it'self into protection as soon as the speaker starts to do some flexing. so i sent it out to get it fixed. they sent it back and i got it all hooked up again and still does the same thing. is there somthing that i may have done or am doing wrong that's causing this??? or is there somthing i can try, to fix it.

Bad grounding, short in the RCA, temperature problem, low resistance in one of or both of the coils, etc. What are the gains set at, what type of input are you using?

i instal my stuff myself. but i did replace the ground on the amp and it seemed like it fixed it. so i got everything back together cranked it up a bit and then it blew the fuse next to the batterie not the amp's actual fuse on the power block. so i put a new fuse in and fixed the problem. but 10 mins later the subs cut out and now both amps are doing the same thing. so i replaced both rounds and turned it up a little bit and it did it again. so i don't know what to do there. i have 8 gague wire to the speakers (power and ground) and then 4 gague off the blocks. so is it possible that the 4 gague wire from the ground block went bad or somthing?? would uping the ground size for the amps help???? oh and the gain is set about 2/3 with rca wire connection.

If you buy the amp from an authorized dealer but install it yourself, you have a 90 day warranty. If you buy it from an authorized dealer and have them install it, you would have a 2 year warranty. Online = no warranty.

Also, there are always people who want more than they paid for, so they get back there, and figure that if the amp has dials on it, and they're at the 1/2 position, they'd probably work better all the way clockwise.

jl amps are good for subs, i dont like the four channels and the rips power supply
the power supply feed both front and rear so if the ohm load isnt even front to rear you dont get full power output. most install this doent matter but for some one who is a little bit crazy when it come to building a stereo (ex. me) it dosnt work well. beside a 300/4 you can cook a egg on under normal listen which isnt good to me either but just a opion dont wanna get flammed just my expreince with these amps |

No flames... I don't know s**t about stereos that is why I take it to the shop to have this stuff installed. Ask me about a King Air or 421B and things like that I can help you out. The only thing I was saying is the JL seems to work in my car. Chris
