Red Hat 8.0 and DVD question?

Running Red Hat 8.0 Pro. with a Pioneer DVD/Rw drive. The drive is working fine as a CD device but I downloaded MPLAYER as RPMs and installed it but it will not play with my DVD drive. When I try to play DVD's it pops up with this error:
***Couldnt open DVD device /dev/dvd***
I am using the KDE gui and it shows that it recognizes the cd rom device as a CD/DVD Rom drive, but cant get it to work.
The propertys of this drive are
/dev/cdrom
mount point. /mnt/cdrom
Can anyone help? Maybe I dont have the right driver?

your drive is fine, just need to setup a link correctly hehe

cd to /proc/ide and do a ls and tell me what directorys you have in there.

I did an ls in that dir and it says this

drivers hda hdc ide0 ide1 sis

rm -rf /dev/dvd
ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd

That error is gone, but now getting another error: Cant open VMG info!

Is something not installed right?

VMG is realted to the DVD encoding stuff.

To play encrypted DVD's you need these:

installed those to RPMs and still gives same error

When I downloaded Mplayer they had a RPM package for encoding called "mencoder-0.90pre10-1.i386.rpm", but when I try to install it, it says I am missing this package "libmp3lame.so.0" Could this be it? But that package was not on the download page.

This decodes the audio.
