Question Professional Graphic Design/Artists

My stepdaughter graduated from the Art Institute around a year ago with a degree in Graphic Design. She is unable to find work in this field. Any of you pros know of any entry level positions? Is this a suck school/degree? She worked her ass off and spent big bucks for over 2 years.

Thanks.

honestly its a networking job, i do graphic design and everything freelance.. and yes dfw is pretty bad for it.. austin and further down south its alot easier.. why i have many friends and intrest down there that get allow me to get random jobs.. honestly the best thing to do is just put up a digital portfolio with some work... spam the site out and go take a road trip and meet people.. just to save you some time, dont even bother using a search engine/phone book and just going down the list of post production shops or houses, most of them have wrong numbers, invalid webmail addresses and also are just outdated.. plus since like 70? or is it 80% of all people that goto the Art Insitute go for graphic design.. its going to be tuff just on hearsay.. and the insitute does job placement i thought?

oh and one last comment, its not a bs degree really just that the econmy sucks for it.. on paper dallas looks like it should rock for this field.. over 400+ marketing agency/services.. oh well.. and for the insitute itself.. you pay the big bucks to learn current technology and aim towards a portfolio.. if anything its a time managment setup with getting your feet wet.. in the field.. its auctal job work/time that gets you further down the road..not the school ;(

Graphic Design Jobs in BIG D? YES

There are TONS of Art/Graphic Design Jobs in Dallas...and to say its easier the further south, is B.S...why? (yea, I'll back up my statement) because the markets are smaller in Austin. Simple.

I recommend you get your stepchild over to DSVC and check out what they do for students/graduates. The Dallas Society of Visual Communications has NOT ONLY a JOB BOARD where folks are looking for talent, but they also have a good forum for other artists/students/designers/web gurus to communicate about all sorts of issues, including jobs.

THey are here: http://www.dsvc.org

I have been in Dallas 11 years, and though the economy isn't great, there is TONS of opportunities, many more than in smaller markets.
