Price of used furniture?
Sister in law is wanting to sell us her bedroom furniture, 2 yrs old and they paid $6000 for it. Offered it to me tonight for $1000. I have absolutely no idea pricing on used furniture. All I know is it looks nicer than mine for sure. Does that sound like a decent deal or what are your thoughts?

Ouch. That sounds like a kneejerk reaction. Hell, he might have another job before they know it. I know it's bad out there, but skilled people are still finding openings. |

I'm hoping that he had a little bit of cushion in the budget, otherwise that's his bad.

Unfortunately not. Said they did just pay off a bunch of cc debt, and only had $96 in checking today when he got the news- he ran it that low and his next check will be it and their mortgage of $6000 is due on the 1st. Tough life lesson there.

HOLY FUCK. He was making 12k a month and his mortgage was 6k? Sounds like he needs a little help with economics. Hope he gets back on his feet quickly, but it sounds like he needs to learn a little bit about income management for his family's sake.

She's your wife's sister. If she's offering it to you for 1k, give her two if it's in y'alls budget. They need the money more than you. That's what I would do anyway if someone in my family was hard up like that.

Hell I'd take the furniture all day long for that price. Let me know if you need a buyer, you might even make a few bucks yourself.
Any yea, if you are pulling in $12k a month doing sales and have nothing saved that is a tough ass life lesson.

That's the exact same furniture collection I have. Identical bed, and I opted for the big chest of drawers instead of the armoire. I also went with nightstands that didn't have the marble. It is VERY nice, quality stuff. That bed is HUGE, by the way. If it's a King like mine, it will take up a shit ton of room. I paid more than $6k, so if you can get it for $1k, that is an absolutely insane deal.

In fact, I would be very interested in just the armoire, so that I won't have to share my big dresser with my old lady. Please let me know if he/you would like to part with that piece. I can pick it up today.

IF, and I have no clue here, but IF his wife worked it would not take much of her income to offset the mortgage. Also if that $12k a month is NET and not GROSS then he is well within the 30-33%.....
