Parked 18 whlr on overpass of I-20, guy on roof waving American Flag WTF???

So there is a guy sitting on the roof of his rig (no trailer) that is parked on the overpass at I-20 and Cedar Ridge. He's waving an American flag.

Is there something coming down 20 like a politician, space shuttle, budweiser bikini team, or is this guy just nuts???

Snapped a pic with my cell, but I lost my data cord the last time I moved. If anyone wants to post it I can text it.

Is it considered "nuts" now to just be a patriot and to remind people what America is about? We had a tragedy occur yesterday and this may be this guy's way of trying to show he cares and to be heard.

Seems like it worked since it got your attention.

Sitting on the roof of a 18 wheeler tractor on an overpass strikes me as a little odd, flag or not.

It's not like it's upsetting. It's just strange.

That's a pretty cool pic. That is a man that has tried to do everything right and to try to be a true american and yet watches every day the country he loves get turned to shit by a monkey in a suit that wants to give "shout outs" during a tragic conference.

I am headed to the store to get a flag to hang off my hotel balcony for the next month.

You hit the nail square on the head.

It shocks me that anyone would think this is crazy or odd. I guess that in and of itself says quite a bit about our current state of affairs.

Good for him! I'm with Jester. I have a metal frame to hold my fuel tank in my truck up a few inches. I may weld a post to that, and affix a giant flag on there.

You're shocked that I think that it is odd to sit on the roof of an 18 wheeler on an interstate over pass and it says "quite a bit about our current state of affairs" yet calling our black president a monkey in a suit is "hitting the nail on the head" - That's ironic, gimme a break.

What's ironic is that you think "WTF" when you see a man waving the United States flag. What's that CrAzY guy doing up there? What kind of whack job is he? You felt it was so odd that you made a post regarding it.

And since you bring it up, I do believe our president is, in a metaphorical sense, a monkey. Since you're probably not as old as the socks I'm wearing, I'll explain what I mean: My parents' generation would commonly refer to someone acting in a foolish, ill-advised manner as making a monkey of himself.

I call him a monkey not because of his color..........but because he is an idiot.

lol, nah, it's because of his color.

I'm with you on this. People claim to love this country, while at the same time showing extreme disrespect for the leader that this country's people and this country's process of democracy put in place.

It's amusingly thick on this board. Don't expect a break!

Bullshit. The cocksucker won't even present his birth certificate. Democracy was thrown right out the fucking window with ACORN and the retarded media.

I love what this country is supposed to stand for, not what it has become.

It has gone from the land of oppurtunity to the land of handouts.

Don't put words into my mouth. If you want to attack me and start an argument over something so trivial as to what I find "odd" at least get on to me for what I actually typed. I never said waving the flag alone is odd. There is one outside my house right now. However, I do think it's odd to block traffic with an 18 wheeler, climb on the roof, and then wave a flag or do just about anything else up there. It's not something you see everyday. In fact it's the first time in my life I've driven past something like that and I've driven/ridden well over 500K miles in my life. You're taking it as if I'm saying there is something wrong with waving the flag. I'm saying that getting on the roof of your 18 wheeler and blocking a lane of traffic to wave a flag is "odd".

Not only have I never seen fireman on the roof of their fire trucks on overpasses, but I've never seen a lone person climb on the roof of their vehicle on any overpass in my entire life.

Is it beyond the realm of possibility for you two to even imagine how this behavior could be viewed as odd?

Apparently everyone on dfwstangs regularly gets on the roof of their vehicle in a lane of traffic all over Dallas, sorry for having an opinion. Perfectly normal, perfectly rational behavior, happens everyday, not out of the norm at all, you guys do it all the time, got it!

Last I checked, the First Amendment to the United States Constitution allows the citizens to disagree with the government and to petition for a redress of grievances.

Citizens are not bound by law or moral code to be in lock-step with their government. I find it amazing how frequently I find the heart of a fascist beating within the chest of a liberal.

I've always lived in "red" states my whole life. My parents are Republicans and basically so am I (I probably agree more with the Libertarian party, but if we're talking about parties that actually count then I'm a Republican, officially I am anyways) and I always thought of Democrats/Liberals as "pussies" for lack of a better term.

Then Obama got elected. It really took the wind out of my sails to see how my friends, my relatives, and even people here in the political forum started behaving after that loss. So many people on MY side became the "pussies" not to mention openly racist. It was really shocking for a few weeks and it's still bugging me now. I've always gone in cycles of getting interested in, then burned out by, politicis. However, it's been different this time. It really turned me off from the whole process for an extended period of time. I mean, it really mixed up how I had thought about things my whole life. For the first time I felt like my party was not only weak, but the weaker of the two. It's like having a hero as a kid and meeting him 20 years later only to see that he's not the hero you thought he was or that you remember him as. Now he's just another broken down old man. :hs:

Anyways, that's another thread...

Some of those people you may think are racist are probably not. I do not care what color you are, but to hear someone say that Obama did not get elected because he is black is a fucking joke. Folks, he is the president because of his skin color and the fact that people watch celebrities to get the political views.

End of story.

It's amusingly thick on this board. Don't expect a break!
Think back a few months ago, when Bush was in office, if my memory serves me correctly he got very little respect from most of the country. I'd bet money on it you wouldn't have said these same words defending him. So why for BO?

Apparently everyone on dfwstangs regularly gets on the roof of their vehicle in a lane of traffic all over Dallas, sorry for having an opinion. Perfectly normal, perfectly rational behavior, happens everyday, not out of the norm at all, you guys do it all the time, got it!
My apologies if my question caused this sarcastic frustrated response, that was not my intention. Yes I have seen several people on top of firetrucks on bridges waving flags. I suppose I am comfortable seeing someone excited and passionate when being patriotic, as that is what I grew up with. Perhaps my pov is wrong, I am always willing to explore different perceptions. Which is why I asked why it seemed strange.

I've been more involved in politics than most "average" citizens. I've done phone banks for presidential candidates down to city council candidates. I've gone to political fundraisers. I've met senators and congressman, I've met gubernatorial and presidential candidates. I'm not trying to brag, just trying to demonstrate my level of involvement. I wouldn't go as far as to say that politics is my life, far from it, but at times it's been a fairly big part of my life. This whole issue runs pretty deep for me. It's REALLY changed how I see a lot of people that have been very influential in my life.

In fact, I believe it was topic du jour for the liberals. They insisted that they could still be patriotic and love the nation but criticize President Bush and the war. You know, like their heroine Jane Fonda did in 'nam!

In my life, the same people that were upset about the disrespect for Bush are now the same people making "nigger" remarks about Obama.

I thought WE as Republicans were better than Democrats. I looked at Democrats as whiners, as petty, as crybabies, as pussies. I identified Democrats with the Barney Franks and Nancy Pelosis of the party. I thought we took the high road. I thought we were better than that. Now it seems like "we" are just as bad, or worse, in all the same ways. No one cares about ideals, just winning and losing, as if it's something as insignificant as a sports team, and not something as important as politics.

I know you are trying to pick a fight and be your typical self, but I am just not in the mood to play today.
So if you need to be enlightened, let me ask you a few questions.

Did you join the military? Why or why not?

Do you think it is okay that people that make more money should have to pay a higher tax percenage than everyone else?

Do you think we should reward the person that kills the asshole breaking into his home?

Do you think the state should have any say at all about what you do in your own home as long as it in no way violates the rights of others or harms others?

I believe we should all speak English in this country. No fucking exceptions.
I believe if you are able to work, your ass should be at work.........and there are always jobs for those who want them.
I believe that if you ae trying to harm me in my home I have every right to stop you with more than enough force to do it.
I believe that you should not go around the world thinking it owes you something.
I believe that your religion is your's and should not be forced on others.
I believe teachers should teach without any personal political viewpoint ever being involved.
I believe it is a fat persons right to be fat.........but if your fat ass takes up two seats, you should be charged for two seats.

Need more enlightenment?

There are always people who have complaints about whatever president is in office. That's healthy, in fact. But personally, I wasn't exposed to very much (if any) comments and hatred towards Bush on the same level that I see towards Obama on this board. I don't hang out in the political forum much, so maybe that's why.

You shouldn't bet money on what I'd do or say when you don't even know me, or even understand what I've already said.

I'm not a liberal. I'm not a Democrat. I'm not an Obama lover.

My post was less about defending Obama and more about agreeing with Hobie for pointing out irony.

patriotism is love of one's country, not a blind love for the president. he may be the leader of my country at this time, but he is far from my president. thankfully we live in a free country still, so that i'm allowed to say that without fear. a president should be a true symbol of patriotism, and that "man" in office is far from anything that resembles a patriot.

I'm glad you agree. Are there people in this thread claiming otherwise? That would be a silly, even dangerous way to live, imo.

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism. No one should have blind faith in any politician. I'm not directing this at you, but the disrespect for the office from both sides has been getting out of hand for a while now. I do feel that what's directed towards Obama is much more severe than what was directed at Bush, Clinton, etc. and it began the night we lost the election, months before he ever took office. I feel as Americans we should all be better than this. It's a little embarrassing to be honest.

I hate defending Obama, but often I feel like I have to do it in real life and even sometimes on the internet.

I must have misinterpreted what you said, what I'm saying is just b/c some people choose to throw out racial slurs because they don't understand anything in politics is their problem. You can't categorize a whole group based on a few peoples actions, you just drop down to their level as well.

To me it seems any action, disrespectful thing said or done to the Potus automatically is turned into something racial. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't make you racist. I was called racist during the election time from co-workers b/c I am white and don't support his agenda, so of course some people with lower self-esteem than I are going to be swayed. JMO

You shouldn't have to defend the president, his actions should be strong enough to keep you from having to do that.
but this isn't the political forum so we should try to stay out of in depth debating
