What kind of transmission is that?

Sounds like it was ready to drop out during downshifts.

sequential, just read it.

It's supposed to do that, or sound like that. Until you've driven something like that - you haven't experienced a "real" car. It is VERY impressive.

My guess is it's not even in the same league as paddle shifters?

<---- Knows nothing about sequential transmissions.

At one point during the video 96lasersnake posted, I thought the chatter I heard was the gears not aligning. Seemed as though the driver was applying slight pressure on the shifter, but the noise was still there even with the drivers hands on the wheel.

A friend of mine has an old International Scout he bought with a manual valve body, would that be similar to a sequential transmission?

And yes, sadly I will never have the chance to experience that type of transmission.

no.

a Sequential doesnt have a torque converter like an automatic. You cant access any gear you want like if you had an H pattern shifter, but must go in sequence.

Motorcycles have them.

The benifit is you dont have to use the clutch really to shift gears and you shift damn near instantaneously from gear to gear.

The higher end paddle shift cars have true sequential manuals.

I gotcha, for some reason I thought it had a torque converter, but no clutch. That's what threw me off.

The clutch is there, but to start and stop only, correct? From that point it has an "I" pattern, in sequence and without the clutch.

The only transmissions I have experience with is the anemic 5 speed in my truck and semi transmissions.

The chatter I heard was the reverse handle making that noise, I missed that part.

I'm sure I am comparing apples to oranges here, but the truck I drive for work has an auto shift 10 speed. It still has the clutch, but from there it is computer controlled shifts while in auto mode.

Switching to manual everything else still applies but the shifts can be controlled by a paddle just to the right of the steering wheel. Similar to what 32valvefromhell stated, shifts 10 gears in sequence.

A true sequential manual is much more like a regular manual. They still have a single manual clutch, and pedal which is needed for reverse and starting in 1st gear. When you shift engine power is cut for just second so you can have WOT shifts without the clutch. There are fully computer control sequentials out there where the computer will control the clutch. The dual clutch transmissions are fully "automatic" and use wet clutches like an auto, with one clutch controlling half the gears and the other clutch controlling the other half.

Search for "dog box transmissions" and you can find a typical manual H pattern style transmission that can handle clutchless shifts when rev matched... Who needs stink'n syncros

Did he launch at 7-8grand but fall on its face to 2?
The rattling is from the reverse gear handle at the base.. The video tells you that.
I would find the ride annoying personally... Otherwise very interesting

Yes, you are right - it just about dies. It's partially due to gearing and partially due to having a VERY small clutch, which carries no momentum leaving the line.

That was just on motor, the dry shot isnt very effective. It only picked up half a second and not even a tenth in the 1/8 mile.

I'll have a plate on it here in the next couple of weeks. I need axles first and they're 2000 bucks.

there's an ls3 vette running tens on a "dry" shot here in houston. Technology for these cars makes having a wet shot obsolete. He runs HP tuners and controls the injectors to shoot more fuel out with the "dry" shot.

The flywheel and clutch assembly probably weigh less than 20lbs all together. It's super light-weight so it doesn't hold much energy, but it will rev up really quick once it's moving. That tranny isn't meant for a driver either. You'd have to have money and brains falling out of your ass to actually put one of those into a street car. On the track it would kick ass though.

No, its a bottle pass. I didnt say it was on motor only.

After re-reading my post I see where you think I said that. I was refering to the guy who thought I went 11's on motor with less then 400 rwhp. Very easy to misunderstand.
