How do you install an above the range microwave?
We are thinking of getting an over-the-range microwave oven. Currently there is one of those big vent hoods. I'd like to retain the ability to vent outside. How is this usually done? I was thinking I'd have to cut my hood and install the microwave, but I'm sure there are easier ways.

I replaced our over the range microwave recently. There is a metal plate that bolts to the studs in the wall, and then the microwave mounts onto the metal plate. The microwave has bolt holes in the top that you run long bolts into thru cabinets or other supporting structures to pull the microwave up and into position. Finally, the microwave will have a vent on top that you can probably attach to your existing vent a hood duct using that thin metallic duct tape.
