Granite Countertops?

What's a good rule of thumb for price/sq. ft installed? I'll probably remove the existing tops. Hecdoggie, I know you did Fred's... what should I budget? I can figure the square footage....

I chatted with a local vendor other day. He suggested $30-$35 per square foot installed as a rough, over-the-phone estimate for granite countertops.

It all depends on what color you choose (varies by a lot), edge finish (bullnose etc) and thickness.

I found that $40-47 a sq ft was the norm. Shop around and be sure to see what's included in the price. Some folks factor in the edging etc so be sure what you're getting. Also be sure about the thickness......the price changes a lot

I paid 37 per sq foot for Santa Cecilia and 43 for Giallo Veneziano. Slabs came from Import Stone in Carrolton there are many other slab paces. Key is finding a fabricator to help save you money.

I had 8 sinks undermounted and 210 sq feet of the two types and averaged 40/sq foot in the end. You can pick cheaper stones to save money as well.

Semi bullnose and fully polished.

Roughly 8400.

You cna also try different shops and see if they have remnants around they save a bunch since then you pay for labor since they keep the extras from the slabs.

I start at 35.00 per ft installed,.I dont charge for bullnose, demi bullnose, square or beveled edges,

Price is affected by the amount of stone that have to buy though, So if you need 65 ft and one slab is 55 ft, we will need to buy two slabs, However, with the more common stone i.e. Santa Celia or New venetian gold, we can use remnants or buy two smaller slabs

I got Giallo Ornamental for the kitchen (89sq ft) and Uba Tuba for the bathrooms (~20 sq ft) I beleive i was in the ~42 sq ft range.

Also, if you're not sold on solid slab, the sell "modular" granite countertops now. It's like a 3 ft section of granite, looks pretty cool. It's price point is very good...centered somewhere between the granite tile and the granite slab. I saw it at Floor and Decor......pretty cool product.

We bought Giallo Antiqua and paid around $1800. It was 18LF with a 6ft elevated bar. We picked out a slab and some Russian guys did all the fabrication and install. I did all the tear-out and plumbing install.

No way I would pay that now. I would buy the pre-bullnosed blanks and pay a contractor to install them and cut/finish/mount the undermount sink. Easily save $500-$800 or more depending on how much countertop you need.

I am doing that for my BBQ island outside.. There is a guy on craigslist tht has islands and counters for cheap and then the fabricator said he would cu the hole for me and I can install it myself Not a lot to it just making special cuts requires special tools that are not cheap for one time use.

Shit! That's a good price, although I realize it is just a starting price. I'll pass this on to the rents, they've been wanting to do granite countertops for a while now.

in the process of getting this done...got a pretty good deal from a relative from a board member.

he came out with lots of pics and samples, and met us out at the granite yard. was very helpful and worked with the time constraints.

pm me if you want his name and number.

how much was your total Fred? My girlfriends parents are looking to get granite counter tops and their counters look to be about the same size.

I've been kind of watching this thread to seee what pricing folks list. We use granite in every home we build, and MAN there is such a variance in prices. I pay $37 ft. with undermount sinks, any edging I want with no up-charges. There are no less than 30 colors included in that price. I have seen granite go for more than $150 ft, especially a few from Europe (Italy in particular). I highly recommend that folks go to the yard and pick out their own slabs, especially if more than one is needed. This stuff comes out of the ground, and every slab can be different.

Thanks for your interest in our granite countertops.

Color samples and prices at our website - www.fromangranite.com

Make sure to bring or fax (817-921-2440) a sketch with some dimensions on it of your lay-out. Or you can attach your drawing to an e-mail.
It does not have to be super accurate since my installers will be cutting to fit the granite at your location.

We have installers who can deliver and install the granite within days! Or they can cut and polish the granite to your specs and you install.

Take I30 West - FtWorth - Take Hulen St. exit (3 miles west of downtown) - go right on Hulen St. for 3 blocks - Go Right on Pershing Av.
I live one block down on the corner at 4436 Pershing Av.

You can come by anytime - please call me first.
Look forward to meeting you!

Best Regards,
Gregg 817-821-8321

That is the way to go unless their samples won't work for your design. Also, I believe there are other sources (slightly cheaper) in DFW than Froman for the prefabricated blanks.
