Interior paint help

I have a burgandy room with white trim, we are going to cover it with a brownish color. What is the easiest way to cover the red without throwing 20 coats on it.

I had to cover dark blue in my old house....Kilz primer worked great! Only 1 coat of it and 2 of the new color.

Have your primer tinted to match the brown paint.

1 coat of primer

1 coat of paint

and then it's miller time

Primers are over rated for color changing in my opinion, except for reds and sometimes yellow's.

Think of it this way. The average room takes about 1 1/2 gallons of paint for 1 coat. So 2 coats will take 3 gallons. Now, if you are using a primer, you will need 2 gallons of primer and 2 gallons of paint equaling a total of 4 gallons when it should have been 3. Its the stores way of selling more product.

If you are going over your Burgundy with a brown, it should cover in 2 coats if not just 1. If I might make a suggestion, try using the Sherwin Williams Pro Mar 200 low sheen. They sell whats suppose to be a better product (Super Paint) but the Pro Mar 200 has much better coverage.

We had a room in our last house that was red like that. Two coats of Kilz did the job, then covered it in a banana cream color.

The primer isn't gonna cover any better than the paint if you are still thinking about a brownish color over the red. 2 coats should do the trick.

Remember...I'm giving you this advice with the idea that you are gonna use a quality paint, suggesting the Sherwin Williams Pro Mar 200 Low Sheen.
