Any suggestions for Dog training
Can anyone give me some recommendations for dog training classes?
I'm looking for classes in the Denton area so Man's Best Friend is out. I've never bothered with classes before because I only had two dogs and they were pretty easy to train in the basics. (Lab mix breeds) However we now had an additional Westy and Irish Setter. Both are a bit of a handful so I think some real training is called for. They are both 6 months old. I might even do some more training on the older dogs. So, any suggestions? |

You can do it. I taught my dog everything myself and IMNSHO I think I did better than one of those schools. Train them hand signals and language because they are "body language" communicators. There is lots of good info on the internet breed specific. But hand signals get results almost imediately. I think I trained a command a day in very little time. My dog got to where he would alert me if my friends had a weed sack...lol. I trained that just for fun to mess with folks.

Depends on what you are trying to train. Our golden would go wild whenever a golfer would pass by the back yard, barking and acting like a damn doberman (we have an electric fence and she would go charging down the yard to the "fence line" acting like that and scare the crap out of people). We finally stopped it with a manually activated shock training collar and treats for when she obeyed us and didn't do the dog gone wild thing. The treats work better than the shocks do.

Petsmart has a 8 week program that is relatively inexpensive. A lot cheaper than Man's Best Friend.
