Range Report - 1/10/07

Took the new CZ 75 P-01 out for the first time today. Straight out of the box with some Winchester it ran like a champ. VERY comfortable also.

Here's the first 14 rd. mag through the virgin gun at 7 yards... that one high shot sticks out like a sore thumb.

Ran out of Winchester and switched to Blazer Yikes.

While loading the first mag of Blazer I saw that one of the cases was chipped and cracked in two places; definitely made me paranoid. And while the Winchester ran fine, I had 2 FTE's with the Blazer.

I've never really had to deal with any FTE issues before... is it more of an ammo thing or a gun thing?

Man, me, my brother, and my neighbor went to shoot this last weekend (SKS, AK-47, 12ga, .22 Ruger pistol w/ scope, and Ruger 10-22 rifle), and we had a TON of Remington .22 rounds that didn't fire. I've NEVER had that many misfires, even put together I've never had as many as we had Saturday. Anyone else have this problem with Remington .22 rounds ??

All in all though, we had a SHITLOAD of fun. We go shooting out in the country, outside of Denison, and we have a bunch of land and a pond to shoot up.

My dads P-01 has never had any feeding issues. Personally that Blazer looks like shit and I'd dump it.

Yeah, I might shoot what I have left, but I will not buy it again.

Here's a closeup of that cracked case.

Any ideas on what would have happend had I tried shooting it?

Something bad more than likely. Maybe not catastrophic but bad.

I wont shoot cheap range ammo ever again. First time I did it was ammo the range said I HAD to use on their range. Turned out it jammed my glock twice on mis-shaped casings. I made them clear the gun both times also since it was their ammo that I had to use. Not to mention that cheap ammo will dirty your gun up bad.

Between the SKS and AK, I have put over 1000 rounds through them with Wolf, and I never had a single problem. Of course, I clean all of my guns almost immediately after every time I shoot them. And Wolf has been the cheapest 7.62x39 ammo I have found anywhere. I bought a case of 1000 for $149 from Gander Mountain in Sherman. I need to check and see if they have any more tomorrow when I go up there--I'm out.

Anyone know where I can get 7.62x39 ammo cheaper than $.15 a round ?

You know its bad ammo when DPS wont even allow it on their range.

I find it funny that people spend hundreds of dollars on a gun but use the cheapest ammo.

To each his own

Looks to me like maybe it got jammed up on the feeder ramp, caused a snag when it did that and thats why it FTE.

10mm is hard to get (cheap) thats why I went with a .45

I'm still working on the few hundred rounds that came with the gun (bought gun used). I am getting pretty low though. That's what sucks about the 10mm is because it seems to be more scarce. I have not really found any good deals.

If you dont shoot that much then I would just stick with what you get now. Try Walmart or your local Gun Range.
Do you plan on shooting a lot?

Not really. Buying a big bulk would be overkill for the amount I shoot. I guess I'll just have to check walmart, or outdoor warehouse.

Well, when I started looking for the 7.62 ammo, Wolf was all I found, and the cheapest I found it was for $3/box, but the main reason I bought that stuff is because when we go shooting, we might put 300-400 rounds through the AK/SKS in a day. I find it hard to spend a bunch of money on ammo that we will just be plinking with anyway. Besides, I haven't had a SINGLE problem with the Wolf in 1000+ rounds. Maybe it was just luck.

By the way John, what do you charge to do the CHL class, and where do you do it ?
