Shooting a shotgun at a gun range

I've been wanting to take my Winchester Defender out to the gun range to get myself familiar with the ranges it is effective at and also to get a better idea about the "kick" with different ammo loads.

Any idea what ranges allow shotguns? I'm not wanting to skeet shoot, I want to shoot at some paper targets at varying ranges. I thought I saw someone one time at Alpine on the pistol range shooting a shotgun and another time at the DFW Gun Range but this was all some time ago.

As far as I know they only allow skeet skeet or trap for shooting a shotgun.

If I ever had time off, I'd take you to our land in East Texas and let you fire away, but doesn't look like I'll be able to anytime soon.

Unemancipated Ellis County land, right down the way from my house. Look to the right on I-35 between Red Oak and Waxahachie (Around the Sterret Rd. exit). I do all my shooting there.

Alpine allows shotguns on the 25 and 50 yard ranges.

bullet trap (plano indoor range) has let me shoot mine there before when its dead... you have to have a clear lane on both sides of you. I dont know if they still allow that or not.

I've seen people patterning on cardboard at quail creek, I don't know if that was a special deal or what. I've also seen them on the rifle range, pissed me off because they wouldn't let me shoot my handguns on it.

I know Garland Public has a SG range.

DFW gun range over on Mockingbird allows shotguns. Not sure if there are ammo restrictions though since it's an indoor range.

usually indoor ranges only allow slugs.... at least the one i go to. they frown upon any projectile getting lodged in the ceiling or walls.

Shotgun Range

I pattern different chokes and barrels almost every week at Elk Castle in Fort Worth.
Unlike all the other ranges I've checked with, Elk Castle doesn't have a problem with shooting shotguns in their indoor range. You can only set the target out to 15 yards but that's about all you need with a Defender anyway. At $12 an hour it's a deal.
Be sure to bring some electical tape to help hold the cardboard on to the target hanger. If you don't tape the corners to the holder, the shot will strip it everytime. They have plenty of cardboard too.
