Staff Mechanical Engineer
POSITION TITLE : Staff Mechanical Engineer
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: meso-scale machining swiss-machine tools controls CAD LOCATION : TX 972 Richardson PAY RATE : 70K-80K plus options Fulltime LENGTH : full-time POSITION ID: 111345.8 EMAIL: dice@glocaptech.com WEB: http://www.glocaptech.com COMMENTS: ------------------------------------------------------- ***To apply, please visit our website at http://www.glocap.com. For more information about this specific position, please go to http://www.glocap.com/joblistings_detail.jsp?db= gt&job=111345.8 ------------------------------------------------------- Located outside of Dallas, TX, this incredibly advanced, privately-funded, high-technology company doing molecular nanotechnology is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years experience in product development role. This company's mission is to be the industry leader in adaptable, affordable, molecularly precise manufacturing at an incredibly small scale, otherwise known as "Molecular Construction". While their ultimate goal is to produce a molecular assembler capable of creating a variety of materials using precise atomic and molecular placement, the path to building an assembler will afford them the opportunity to produce an array of MEMS-, subMEMS-, and nanoscale devices for a variety of industries. To most efficiently approach a solution, the company is divided into 3 groups: * the "bottom-up" lab, composed of molecular chemists trying to get atoms to bind to each other; * the "top-down" lab, dedicated to using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) as the basic cogs and wheels of the nano-assembler; * the "advanced systems" group, dedicated to finding the properties of individual atoms. This is necessary so that the company will be able to tell if it's using the right building blocks when it does try to build something. Currently, the basic raw materials the company is using are carbon nanotubes. These are sheets of hexagonal atoms wrapped into the shape of a cylinder. They have a diameter of approximately 1/10,000 the size of a human hair, are capable of carrying a very high current, and are about 100 times stronger than steel. They are also quite expensive (costing around $1,000 per gram) and are produced by universities and research institutions. The company is making a significant investment in MEMS as an enabling technology for the top-down approach to nanotechnology. They are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer. Requirements: * Diverse design and applications background, preferably in Meso/Micro-scale Part Design * Familiar with design for Swiss-machine tools, EDM, with good knowledge of best domestic sources for niche meso-scale machining * Basic programming abilities (ideally motion control implementation, Labview etc.) * Knowledge of controls-systems theory, stage/motion control dynamics for high-precision applications * Good general knowledge of actuator design and sensor selection * Very quick on mechanical engineering fundamentals, design for machine shop operations, injection molding * Good CAD skills (preferably 3D CAD software) * Will have worked on customer-driven projects and will have demonstrated quick-cycle-time in engineering work * Products that were adopted into the field or by the customer/end-user are of particular importance * BSME, MSME preferred, 5+ years experience in product development role The company offers excellent pay, benefits, stock options, flexible scheduling and a family friendly atmosphere. ------------------------------------------------------- ***To apply, please visit our website at http://www.glocap.com.
