Nice, Southlake Carroll is #1 in the nation

Wow, im suprised. Looks like this team gots their heads on straight. Our team was pretty unfocused. Next week i think they go on ESPN for their games. The coach isnt going to be in high school football for long, as im sure he wants to go on to a VERY high paying college gig.

How are your high school teams doing this year?

Denton ryan is looking solid. They should force the carroll team to put up or shut up. I think Dodge is up to the task, lets see if the players can bow up for the big game.

I think they'll have what it takes to beat Denton Ryan. They'll probably end up at State again. Not sure if they'll win after the shit they pulled last year, but it'll be interesting to see. And Dodge is going to be around for another 4 years. Riley, his son, is in 8th grade (I think) and he's staying until he graduates.

Southlake vs Denton Ryan is going to be on ESPN 10/14. They had to move the game to Thursday night.

I think Denton is going to win this one.

yup.

also have to give credit to thier coach. I went to the game they played againt Plano East (where I went). It definitely looked like each player on that team knew exactly where he needed to be on any given play...thats good coaching.

Permian was well on there way to being 5-0....until they got beat down by a freaking Lubbock Monterrey squad!! Looks like Midland Lee is still the team to beat in our area. They have put it to Euless Trinity, Dallas Kimball, and Port Arthur Memorial...but couldnt get passed Southlake in week 1. As a side note....Daniels' (QB @ Southlake Carroll) father grew up and went to high school and college right here in Midland/Odessa. Dammit...why couldnt he have just stayed around...we could've used his son.

Southlake's coach gets paid close to or over $100k/year . . . he better be producing a #1 team for that much money . . . but then again, I know that a lot of Southlake parents donated a sh*t load to his salary when he was thinkin of changing schools . . .

I am probably the only one around here that watches private schools. I follow American Heritage in Carrollton. They are currently ranked 3rd in the state amoung the 2A schools with a 3-1 record. This past week our running back rushed for 360 yards with 7 TDs. I believe they have a very high probability of going to the big dance this year.

On a side note, my daughter is one of the trainers for Plano East and they got their butts kicked a couple of weeks ago by Southlake.

HS football across the rest of the country must be a little off this year if Southlake has managed to get in at #1 and Denton Ryan is also nationally ranked. Neither are bad teams, but compared to some of the years past it's just not near as strong around here as it once was.

Not entirely true. I pay attention to high hchool football because I want to be involved in my kids lives. One is a football trainer and the other is a football cheerleader. This is why I watch high school football.

The kids play because it actually means something to them instead of getting that paycheck. And I don't just follow my alma mater, but pretty much keep up with all levels of it, so it's not like I'm trying to "relive HS" or something.

Rankings don't mean shit, man. Ennis was #1 in the state the last two years, and they didn't make it to state either year. Ryan went to state its first year unranked and won, I believe, way down at the bottom the year after that.

Its pretty funny how Todd Dodge is now a "great" coach but yet when he was coaching at Newman Smith he was considered a joke. Sounds more like good players and an "okay" coach to me. Smith never did a damn thing when I was there for my Freshman year and I went over to Creekview and we beat them the first time we played them in our Senior year.

Yeah we ran all over Newman Smith in HS. They were horrible.

If DeSoto had coaches that were worth a damn, nobody could beat them.

That is kind of bull shit Southlake, wont build a new highschool. They split their campus so they can put everyone into one sports team. There would be so many otehr competitive schools if they decided to keep it down to one or two schools.

denton ryan , as said, can not keep up with that offense. Southlake D has not been TOO hot early on, but they have picked up the threats and stuck with them in the 2nd and now 3rd quarter.

thats a lot of money for a new band , new desks, more books, etc. Plus, the property taxes here are pretty wild, and it sucks because a LOT of it goes to other school districts per Robin Hood. Besides, its a pretty small town still, no need dividing it to two smaller mediocre campus's. Teacher morale in southlake is pretty bad right now, and i think would get worse with another school being scrambled to put together. Besides, i dont really trust the school council to not botch it and REALLY divide the town. This town has grown FAST. Just around 10-12 years ago the school was 2A-3A, then recently moved to 4A, then quickly went to 5A, and people thought the sports teams would get smashed. I was wrong on that myself. Grapevine, on the otherhand, shifted students around one year so they could drop down out of 5A and back to 4A to stay competitive. That was somewhat odd.
