Who likes Buells?
I think they are good looking bikes. Slow but, good looking.
I'd like to ride one.

I have always like that bike. I guess it's kind of cool that it is American Made (made by Harley Davidson) It probably would be a good bike for a beginner because it has no fairings.

Those things put the "F" in the word "useless"
What the hell will it do that almost any other bike wont do better? If I was going to own a twin,(not likely) It would have to be a chopper.

That bike uses the frame as the "gas tank"
Lindsey, you need to learn to appreciate the difference b/w a 4 banger and a twin

Yea, Variety and all that.
But man I would hate to drop that kind of cash on a bike knowing full well that any 6 would beat me in any kind of race.... Actually I think they are kinda Fugly anyway. Different, I guess.

I take it you just picked up the latest issue of Cycle World JC??? LOL! They've got the bike in there. I've been real curious about Buells for some time now. Yes, it's got some unique styling (I like it) but I've heard that the engines are enemic but there handeling is pretty good because of the way they package everything. I'd love to hear how they sound and see how they run around a track.

Actually, I've been curious about Buells before I got the bike. But I was cruising Sportrider.com and I was checking out the 2005 lineup and saw the Buells and decided to post about them.
Before I got the R1 I liked 'em but, when I found out what times they run I was very dissapointed. I mean man. My Trans Am was faster and it was a grocery getter. XB9R Firebolt ('02) 10/02 11.84 @ 112.5 XB12R Firebolt ('03) 12/03 11.43 @ 117.5 The 1200 runs 117mph in the 1/4?! That's horrible. But here's why: XB12R Firebolt ('03) hp99.6 @ 6750 tq77.5 @ 6750 wet lbs461 dry lbs439

the first bike is a cityx and that is the stock tail on it, its a new model and im not even sure if it has even been released. also like naynay said the gas tank is the frame and the swingarm is the oil tank, so the spot where the conventional gas tank goes is the air box and if you look it is a clear fairing which i think is a first also. the second pic is a thunder or firebolt which is just another model with some of the same features. i like em and know a guy who has a thunder, they are fun as hell to ride. tons of torque and they sound badass.

Well if I ever thought about buying a Buell (which I wouldn't because I couldn't afford a new or second bike) I wouldn't be buying it for the speed. It would be for the style (which I sorta like) and the handeling (which I'll reserve my opinion on).
Man, anybody on the board have an RC51?? I'd love to hear that bike and check it out up close. I hate the way the twin exhaust is layed out on it and the silly digital tach on it but otherwise I'd love to hear a sporty twin and I love the styling on it. Hmm... If I ever though about moving up to liter land....

Jeff's RC51 is Definitely PIMP.
i personally wouldn't own one. i Dont like harley's because of their engine, so i'd sooner buy something with a twin that i thought would be a good bike than something i was sure was a boat anchor. hell, i'd take the honda SuperHawk over one of those little bastards. adam |

yeah,
shes a little heavy, pleasingly plump if you will. i like it because of the size i am, 6ft 1 around 200lbs and dont really feel comfortable on a smaller bike, the last bike i owned was an 01 ninja zx9r. i was comfortable on that but i looked into the gixxers and the 954 when i sold the ninja and did not feel comfortable on either of them. the tiller is a big bike no doubt, but the weight is made up by the insane amount of torque. i dont stunt at all. o.k., maybe an occasional wheelie
but for my needs, street riding and an occasional high speed pass on the 121 bypass behind my house it suits me fine. plus you dont see tillers everyday. check out www.tlplanet.com if you wanna see some insane tillers with some insane hp and ft/lb ratings.pm sent evil.

As far as the TLR's power with the proper mods......... I have walked RC51's with the same size rider as myself. Done it several times against a buddies. Its faster than a superhawk by far. Never raced a Ducati. But their main advantage from what I understand is in the suspension. I am not saying I can run a gixxer/ZX10 type bikes in a straight line or anything........ but anybody can ride a bike in a straight line and twist the throttle. I had my speedo calibrated and I have seen my speedo between 175 and 180. That is of course with the stock gearing of 17/39. It may take it a few seconds more than the average liter bike....... but it is no slouch by far. And capable of third gear wheelies without the cluth. The third gear wheelie is not a high one, maybe about 6 inches and a hard tug. but comes up just the same if your timming is perfect. First and second are very easy to get them as high as you want without the clutch. 2nd gear at about 6 or 7 grand and nail the throttle and hold on. NayNay is right about the oil pickup being in the front of the engine. But i have seen them get wheelied through 6th gear. I have never been that good though. sorry, didnt mean to ramble about the tlr.... but i felt i had to set the record straight on its abilities. And as mentioned of course......... they arent your average cookie cutter bike thats seen everywhere. And they sound awsome. To each his own. |

V-twins
Have a different firing cycle than a regular 4 stroke..
4 strokes are usually intake, compression, power and exhaust, affectionately refered to as.. Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow. V-twins replace the Power stroke with an additional intake stroke or.. Suck, Squeeze, Suck, Blow. With the Extra "suck stroke" added this explains why they really Suck! J/K.... Others have said that the 4 cycles of a Harley motor are.. 1) Start engine 2) Release clutch 3) Move forward 3 feet 4) Get off and mop up the oil puddle. Still J/K
