About taking the DPS test.......

So I can just go up there and ask to take the Motorcycle liscense test and I can take it without having to do the riding portion? I have a certain amount of time to take the riding portion, right? This will get me a permit, correct?

The DPS isn't open on Saturdays are they?

Passed the DPS test today...
I took the test yesterday thinking it would be cake, and failed it about 80% through it...

So I read the book last night cover-cover, and got 14/15 right, then the test passed me without having to finish it...

Next month when it isn't hot as hell outside, its time for the MSF. JC, you wanna take it with me so I have someone I know in the class?

At least I have a legal permit now to ride with someone that has a license... I asked the lady at the counter if I could just go to bike night and assume someone there has a license, and she laughed and told me to be careful.

I went yesterday and took the test. I made an 80 without even opening the book in 3 years!! Next week I am going to have my dad follow me to the DPS so I can do the driving portion of the test.

Of course I will probably take the MSF course in a few months when I can get a Saturday off.

Just take the MSF it's really worth it, then you go up there and take the test (which you have already seen all the questions from the msf class) and in 15 minutes you have the liscense.

the MSF class will also give you a discount on your insurance if you mail the ins company a copy of it.

So if you take the MSF class, do you have to take the driving portion at the DPS? Also what do you need to take the MSF course? do you need your own bike?

If you take the MSF class you can skip the riding portion of the DPS test. You do not need to bring your own bike for the MSF class, they provide that for you. You will need to bring a long sleeve shirt or jacket, pants, ankle high boots, leather palmed gloves, and a helmet if possible but they usually have loaners on those. Hope that helps.

I'm pretty sure you have to schedule it (no walk in's) and you have to provide the trooper a vehicle to follow you in.

Right on Jose. I went with my friend Chad. I had to follow him in my truck. Make sure you both have insurance cards as they check for both. The test is a piece of cake. If you fail then you do not need to be riding a bicycle.

They will honk once for a turn a twice for the other. The riding test is more difficult in the MSF class then the DPS IMO. Of course I passed the MSF with ease. They made it out that it was more difficult that it was.

Good Luck.
