Motorcycle Riders.....

How did your wife or signifcant other react when you told her you were going to get a motorcycle (streetbike)/ My girlfriend cried and bitched at me saying I was going to kill myself. Of course now I am having second thoughts about it. I should probably get over it as I have had dirtbikes and 4 wheelers in the past which are just as dangerous.

Anyway just curious to hear what everyone's wife or significant other thought.

That's why you need to already have toys before you get engaged/married/etc. If you already have a bike, a daily driver, a race car, thousands of dollars in tools and equipment, a shop, etc, you will never have to worry about the "what if's".

How is this the wrong forum?

Well you are right it is easier if you already have the stuff before you meet that person. I guess I just waited too long to get the bike. I'll probably get it though.

LMAO about bringing it home without telling her, that is what I should've done.

She got over it. Didnt take long for her to be asking for a ride. Off the subject you work at a dealership?

here is my thoughts when people ask me ...should I get a bike etc etc...wife thinks this stuff etc etc...

I am single but you are not

Everytime you hop on that bike no matter how good of a rider you are and X amount of years of riding experience....cars are going to be your worst enemy...and you will no doubt almost be killed several times ..... are you willing to risk every walking again?? never being about to make even hold your child cause your are paralized from the neck down...are you willing to have your wife take care of you the rest of your life cause u are now unable to do so ......granted you might ride your whole life and never come close! to a wreck...but there is always the otherside of the story....

just somthing to think about man....I know people can wreck in cars yadda yadda....but lets be honest...bikes are not safe plan and simple....if you get a bike ROCK ON!! get GEAR!!! take teh MSF course and ride safe!

R6 love!

Thanks for everyone's opinions. I did get a bike this weekend. I got a 2003 Honda CBR 600 RR. It's awesome! I did buy a helmet jacket and gloves.

And yes I do work at a dealership. What can I do for ya.

My wife didn't like it at all but, she knew I would get it anyway. We went back and forth. No hard arguing or anything like but, rather just the both of us were giving our cases. But, of course I went ahead and got it. She's seen me with my head buried in the Safety books ever since I got it so she has softened up. And plus when we drive in the car together, I use my new found knowledge to tell her how unsafe other riders are being.

How to avoid accidents? I'm not sure. I pray before I ride (may not mean anything to others but, means the world to me) and I hop on and use every bit of my common sense. I mean, everything that I read comes back to me when I ride. Especially in intersections and on the streets. IMO highway riding is more enjoyable and less dangerous when you go the posted speeds. The side streets are the most dangerous and that's why I'm 100% cautious on them.

We take a risk everytime we ride. Knowing how to ride "safe" is how to survive. Think about your route, use restraint. Use the bike to get from point A to point B. Use the track to see what the thing will do for an extended period of time. Don't fly around blind corners, etc.....keep it safe.

CORRECTION:
I was not bitching. I said I was scared for something to happen to you. When you care for someone you are concerned for there safety. Sorry.

My wife didn't care for it at first. But, a few months later, she got tired of being a passenger. She ended up getting her own bike!! Now I get to ride with my solo seat on!! haha

I also had the long discussion with the wife. She said her or the bike. I ended up getting a bike and letting her leave, j/k. But I did get the bike though. I went over everything I could think of to win the subject. From safety courses, gear, when and where I will be riding. All in all I dont think she minds as much now.

mine was actually not too mad about it, but A. we aren't married, and B. I don't really care what she says. LOL

My girl would worry herself to death if she ever found out how truly fast the bike is, because she has no REAL perception, so i took off my passenger foot pegs.

now i don't have to worry about her ever finding out how fast it is.

My wife is cool with it now. Occasionally she'll get worried when she hears about some biker, biting the dust. I reassure her that I'll be okay and that I ride safe. I haven't told her about going 112mph, and I don't think I ever will.

BINGO! We have a winner! hehehehe

I don't have to worry about Clifton getting one. It's not me who would be worried (well, yes I would be). He knows he would kill himself on it, so he doesn't want to buy one!

Jason, Tammy doesn't have to worry about you on the bike. You are too much of a pussy to do anything to hurt yourself! (I know, other peeps could still run ya over.) Love ya!!
