How to Launch?

I got the How to Shift fast chapter done, save for a few grinded teeth on my tranny...

What's the best way to get the bike moving fast w/o lifting the tire and/or bogging it? about 4 K and a light throttle quick clutch seems to work well, but people at the track ride the shit out of the clutch at like 10K or so right? What would be the difference in 60' between a smooth low rpm launch and a crazy rpm slipping launch?

10k rpm slip the clutch is how you launch.... 4krpm is bogging with your size and 600cc you'll never ET how you want I promise.

How much do I slip it? enough to keep the front tire down, but how much is that? lol.

I also haven't tried launching with it strapped, it would probably keep the front end a lot more stable and on the ground then right?

practice by going from 6-7k and SLIIIIIPING the clutch, until you get it on the fine line of bogging and lifting the wheel (too fast, or too slow)

you actually slip it prtty fast but obviously not too fast or the front wheel will be in the air fast. Yes strap it

strapping the front end down so the forks struts are compressed all the way to lessen the chance of the front tire lifting under hard acceleration.

I'll try that hopefully tomorrow night when I get my bike... Thanks for the tips. I'll have the previous owner show me the tricks of the trade, he went 6.66 on it so I am sure he knows how to launch it just right.

I didnt launch mine very high and I cut 1.8 60s. I took off at about 4k then right after i get moving i step it up to about 7k. The first few feet take it easy cause thats when the front comes up. After that its WOT. On a good launch it will hover about a foot off the ground almost all the way through first but u can still apply all the power. I have stock ride height zx6r and ran a 7.0 at 105 my first time at the strip. What do u ride?

Was your 1.8 60' time a 1.81 or a 1.89??? There is a BIG difference in that amount of time!!! 1.81 would be excellent for that bike, where a 1.89 would be about avg!!!

Not on this bike. This bike is VERY torqey for a 600 and it's also 1 tooth down. Launching at anything over 6000 will put the front tire in the air (riding the clutch the way you have to te get a good time slip). Launch at 5500 and ride it just past the 60' mark. Best to date on that bike was a 6.66 @ 107 on a 1.65 60'. I love that bike.....I would be happy to show you how to 60' that mutha. Just holla at a playa.

Stacey rode my bike 3 times and could not beat my time on it, he said "I don't know what your doing, but whatever it is it's working for ya".......hahaha.

Isn't that dangerous? Aren't straps dangerous in general? I know it's cheap to get them but, isn't there another way to lower the front?

He means strapped like he's carrying a weapon. Greg's bike doesn't even have a strap on it. I do ride mine lightly strapped on the street just to keep the tightener snug and from bumping the inside faring. Never had a problem. Straps are not dangerous at all unless you use them incorrectly, ie. connecting to the wrong part of the lower fork or brake is very dangerous......just do it the right way and you won't have any problems with it. Even if it comes unstrapped it does not catapult you into the air.......lol. It simply comes back up.....but I have not had one do any harm to me and I have had one since the day I started riding.

You can lower the bike at the forks but make damn sure you use a pair of mic's to check the depth, if you get one side lower than the other it will head shake and tank slap when you get on it too much. That's dangerous. Just use common sense, if it looks dangerous it probably is.

I have a strap on mine but I nver use it on the street. It's dangerous because there is no front suspension if the strap is pulled all the way down. The other way to lower it is to raise the forks through the triple tree. By doing that you will still have full suspension travel as lomg as you don't go so low as to bottom out easily.

If I had a nickel for everytime I heard that at the track, that little R6 has stomped 1000's in the 1/8..... . Knowing how to get it down the track is 100% the battle.

Ok fine with me. If I hang at all it won't be so bad due to the circumstances. And if I can rip a 6.9 then its all good with me.

Nah, to be honest that bike is hard to ride. I rode another 04 R6 this spast weekend and although I could not touch worth a crap didn't do a burnout and it wasn't slammed like mine was, only managed a 7.2 out of it. Only got one run, I think the second run would have easily been a 6 second pass cause that bike had some power as well.
