Aren't you guys scared of 170+ speeds on the highway?

How does the bike react at those speeds? I got to 65mph the other day and I was nervous thinking about dips and bumps. LOL

I rode my moms fatboy the other day and was doing about 110. She had the windshield on it and I thought I was going to take flight.

I have gone 176 on mine. Not sure if it's actually correct on the speedo but it was damn fast. Surprisingly enough it was not scary though. A buddy of mine has seen 189 on his ZX10 countless times. Crazy!

I have have been close to 200 several times on Zx12's....and it wears you out. Just the shear wind force pulling on you takes alot of effort to stay tucked. Me and Nick did a few highspeed runs from North Dallas one night, rarely dipping below 130mph...averageing 150-160mph...and sometimes pegging the speedo way past 220 (190-198mph) on dark stretchs at 2am. When I got done, I was tired as hell...and my body was sore from all the muscle control on the bike. Now.....cruising at a steady 130mph is a cake walk!

I saw 187 on the speedo and it was roughly 8-10% off so about 170 and that is rediculous amount of wind.

Only thing I am scared of is things in the road.....2X4's....old tires, anything that could cause me to wipe out. And then I hear about people pulling pranks by setting park benchs out on the highway at night, and other large objects. Instant death.

My bike is smooth but I have only had it up to 132 mph and got scared and let off. I did find out that if you stay tucked the wind dosen't even hit you.

I can honestly say I doubt I'll ever go much over 100mph. Call me a pu**y but I'm not into that... on a bike anyway When I'm on the highway my typical speed is like 70-80mph with an occasional blip up to 90-95mph. But I'm an old man at 3x years young and don't care for high speed antics as much as in my younger days

I have gotten mine up to 174 on the speedo and still had a gear to go!!! Didn't even feel that fast, but it sure was coming up on traffic quick!! Someday I might try to go faster. I'm more into going up to about 140-150 real quick and then letting out.

I've seen 185 once on the gixxer but there really is no need for that type of speed.

I agree with you saying to stay tucked down. I used to ride on the back with Luke quite a bit, and we got up to 168. When you are on the back, it is hard to stay tucked, and I felt like a bobble head doll. It was crazy. I know he has been faster than that, but that was my record.

I've seen 184 on the speedo of my '01 R1 and that was enough for me. Since then, I have never had the desire to go that fast again. A good cruising speed for me is about 100mph or so and going that fast for more than 10 or 15 miles will get pretty tiring from being tucked down.

Agreed! I made a pact with myself I wouldn't go crazy speeds on the freeway or roads, I plan on going 135ish ro whatever the little bike will carry me in the 1/4 mile, but I don't plan on doing anything like that on the streets... 105 is the highest I have seen, and it was plenty damn fast... it only takes a couple speed shifts and you are there before you know it.

I told myself that EVERYTIME I sit on that thing, getting ready to take it anywhere. I will take a quiet moment while it's warming up to say a quick prayer, calm down, think about where I'm going and to be cautious. I'm invisible and everyone in a car is trying to kill me.

sure as hell seems that way 90 percent of the time, even with brights on during the day -

plus, i don't know where everyone else lives, but Dallas roads SUCK ! it's too hard to find a flat piece of road to hit 130 + for any sustained length of time without watching for grooves, dips, and POTHOLES, not to mention all the congestion of the cars, etc. -

I havn't been that fast on my bike yet, only about 120 but that wasnt on a highway or for very long. I'm not scared to go fast and I think it helps that my bike is older so it is heavy so it is more stable 500+lbs

No, but....

I needed to make a quick trip to garland one night, and didn't want to change visors. I'm in a mild tuck running about 90 or so in the fast lane east bound I-30 just past the 80 split when I see a quick twinkle of light or flash for a split second in my lane infront of me. I rolled off the throttle & sat up only to find a shopping cart in the middle of the fast lane at 11:30 at night. To think I actually second guessed it, and almost didn't sit up to see it, I almost hit the damn thing.

Another night I was getting on 635 rolling 7 deep or so. We where moving along pretty quickly when we had to dodge a king size mattress and box spring set in the middle of the highway.

You would be surprised at the amount of shit on the highway in the middle of the night, or any time of the day for that matter.

I was mashing down 635 one night on my zx-11 doing 175 or so when I blew a radiator hose dousing the back tire in coolant at speed. 175+collant= a scary fucking situation.

I am fortunate I never lost my life. I have come very close a time to many.

My junk has not been out of the garage for 2 years.

First time I bought a street bike was back in 1984, it was a Honda Interceptor 500. It would top out at about 130. How do I know? Lets just say that there is a long stretch of highway just north of Virginia Beach that I used to travel when going back to the base after many nights of stoplight racing.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only time you will be SORRY is when you hit something like that. I said PARK BENCH, only because I know people who have done that EXACT THING. That, concrete cinder blocks, old couchs they find on the road, ect.

Get back to us after you've ridden for a while.

Sorry E but I just don't care for the high speeds Guess I'm old or something but I just care about the ride and not so much for "stunting" or high speed antics.

I took my r1 to 150 a few times, but didnt cruise around at those speeds... I think the fastest I ever cruised around was 80.
