What do you do to stay motivated?
I can't seem to stick to working out longer than about 6 months at a time if that long. And I'll stop working out for the same time if not longer! Can't seem to stay motivated to keep going. I see progress too. I have tried the gym scene and doing it at home several different times. I'm pretty far gone at this point so this next time I'm really going to have to do something to get back to where I was then stay with it. Any suggestions?

Ask yourself if you'd feel comfortable without your shirt on in public today.

Imagine your wife checking out the muscles of that hot 22 year old you saw at the mall. If getting pissed off and saying "I could look that good too" won't do it, nothing will.

Look at all of the older guys with guts - that's where you
are headed if you don't do anything about it. Shirt off - that's a good test also; was my first thought when I saw the topic. When you are IN shape it's cool to get glances from other people - you want this for positive reinforcement. Get a workout buddy to help you make it to the gym, or decide that you can spend $50 on the car for every 5 workouts, or stick a picture of a huge fat guy on your fridge, or work a deal with the Wafe to reward you for sticking to it. Point is - find SOMETHING that works and makes you go. What works for me is the thought of having spent so much time in the gym to get where I am now and it will all go away if I stop going. i think you just have to really enjoy going and getting the pump on. what is really motivating is when people at the gym will make comments on how you are improving. another think is that there is alot of eyecandy at the gym. atleast my gym.

well,i went for a week, then got a job and didn't want to wake up at the crack of dawn. now i'm using the wait and see method- my brother is has been working out for about 4 weeks now and we're the same buid, if it starts to show for him i'll shoot for it. If not i'm going to probably just get even lazier(if that's possible)

This probably won't mean anything to Todd, but a couple of my friends that were of average build started working out. Once they got in REAL good shape it seemed like every attractive woman from 15 to 50 wanted to fuck them. That was enough for me to get back into the gym.
Havin a couple dedicated work out partners helps a lot too. I compete with everything. If one of my buddys is lifting something 8 reps for 3 sets then i try to do more reps or add more weight. I wouldn't say a word to him about it. Just compete in my head and push myself. It just make me feel better about myself to work out. I HATE cardio, but other than that I actually enjoy most of it. |

My biggest motivation is looking in the mirror and being ashamed of my gut. I don't really want to be buff. I just want to be fit. I was trying to run to loose weight, but that was really boring, and I was becoming unmotivated. So I started playing basketball. It is a very good workout and it is also fun and competitive. So not only are you running around burning fat, but you also got a little extra testotstrone flowing through your veigns which helps out to.

mustang mike, good idea, but if you weight train a few times a week that wil help tone your body faster coupled with a good diet, not too strict or you will give it up fast but something sound !
give it a shot! |
