I need drill a few holes in some 1/2" thick steel. I have the right bit but I'm out of cutting oil. is there anything else that I can use as a substitute?

TIA

I've used cheap motor oil without any issues

You guys haven't ever been around a machine shop, eh?

All of those things listed above PREVENT are designed to prevent metal to metal contact. I.e. "cutting"

They sell small bottles of light thread cutting oil in the plumbing sectoin of the big hardware stores. If you do this stuff a lot, I'd recommend getting a bottle. You'd be amazed at the difference in effort required to drill holes.

FWIW, I am not saying none of that stuff wont work, I am saying the thread cutting oil is better.
