It's quite ridiculous when you think about it, but unfortunately, I expected it to happen.

What was posted as far as this picture, I thought was great, and actually sent chills down my side. Not bad chills, but the chills you get when you witness something great. I am proud to say the least.

Yet barely anyone in this thread can take the picture for what it's worth, and what I acknowledge as, a great individual. But has to turn this thread into a pissing political match.

Just my opinion.

Everyone's entitled an opinion, and more often than not, you're going to disagree with them. I can't stand Obama's policies but that would be the case with Nancy Pelosi or Barney Frank or any other Democrat asshole you can think of. Not because he's black.

I will answer your questions but I want to point out, you didn't enlighten me at all. Your answers were your beliefs and have nothing to do with what this country stands for, should stand for, or ever did stand for.

No, I didn't join the military because I didn't want to.

Tricky question because higher incomes will always pay a higher tax since it is based on a percentage, even if the percentages fluctuate based on income level. Since I am not familiar enough with tax structure, I really don't have a big opinion on it, but I am inclined to say no, there should be one percentage straight across so everyone pays the same percentage of tax, not the same amount.

No, we should reward someone for taking someones life, regardless of the situation. The justice system is there for a reason. Does it always work and is it always fair? Of course not, but it what it is and we have to live with it and if you are concerned about being wrongfully accused, it is simple, don't put yourself in a situation where you are even in a place to be wrongfully accused. Self defense is a separate issue I think, being life and death, survival of the fittest, but someone should certainly not be rewarded for killing someone regardless of the situation.

As for your last question, you are actually touching on where I was going with my pointed questions. I have had this debate with a friend of mine several times. I am going to try and explain my point of view, but to answer your question straight up, yes I do think they should have that right. To put that into my point of view, I think that way, not because of "oh, drugs are bad", which is obviously what you had in mind in asking that question, I think that way because I think society as a whole can not police themselves. You allow things to go on in the home that are "victimless crimes", and soon, it migrates outside of the home, then down the street, etc. I soon becomes a crime with a victim. Frankly, I don't care what you do in your home, but the second you come out in public, I have a big fucking problem with you being a dumb ass. I see a big problem with people trying to blame the government for not letting you do as you please. If you are going to blame someone, blame society. Blame the idiots that can't handle life, can't handle being a member of society, can't respect others, but don't blame the government. It is a direct parallel with speed limits. They are there because people can't handle driving without speed limits. Speeding is a victimless crime, until you come around the corner and wipe out a family of 4. Laws are deterrents. Necessary "evils" as some might think, because society has evolved into a bunch of selfish, disrespectful, moronic, clueless, stupid people. Blame these people because it is because of them we even need laws. It is also human nature, so laws in themselves are inevitable. My only real rebuttal to the "victimless crimes are not really crimes" line of thinking is, if you don't like it, get involved in politics and try and make some changes instead of bitching about it.

The real reason for my pointed question is because, in talking with my friend, who by the way is probably smarter than anyone that post in these forums by a mile, he has told me to read up on certain subjects. While I will admit, I haven't really, I have skimmed some things. When you refer to what this country stands for, what it represents, my first thought was, most people have no earthly idea what principals this country was originally founded on. Knowing the large number of conservatives that post in these forums, I would bet they have never read the Declaration of Independence or some famous quotes by Thomas Jefferson. Our founding fathers were the biggest bunch of "rebels" in the true sense. They hated all forms of government. They hated all laws. They believed in the true meaning of freedom. Our government is a democracy, but that was not their true intent upon forming this nation. Jefferson himself denounced democracy.

I guess my point is, I just find it amusing when people wave the American flag and talk about America and what it stands for and this and that and try and put up the patriotic force field when they probably have no idea that the country we have today evolved from what America originally stood for and the principals that is was originally based on.

There are laws against drunk driving because people can't figure out they shouldn't be doing that. About the drugs though, I don't know where I stand.
