i can't remember the exact figure that the census was supposed to cost...it seems like it was something like 12-14 billion dollars! i may be wrong on the figure, and i'm honestly not in the mood to search it, but it seems kind of high for asking 10 questions and putting those answers in a database.

You won't be fined for anything. Don't let anyone pressure you. The census is strictly optional and there are no penalties for false answers, empty answers, or even if you throw it in the trash.

1960 I believe I read was the last time two people were fined. $100 was the penalty.

They will send someone to your house. They did it to me in 2000. I wasn't really avoiding them, but I was out of state for most of that year.

I was threatened with a fine if I didn't make time for her. I didn't get a man in black but rather a black woman.

I don't remember seeing all the advertisements for the census in 2000. They REALLY want illegals to be counted in this one. Seems wrong that Us congressional districts will be determined by illegal immigrants or that some states will get more Federal Dollars because they do a crappy job of enforcing the law, but that's where we stand.

Well guess what was in the mailbox today? Questions 8 & 9 give a combined total of 20 race options... I marked "some other race" and printed in "AMERICAN".
Other than # in household, I believe that is all the info I will provide.

I got mine today. It asked for # people living in household, their names and birthdates, and their nationalities. I didn't see anything about your income level. It did ask if you owned or rented your home.

I think some of you guys have reading comprehension issues or maybe have a penchant for hyperbole. I received the 2010 Census in the mail the other day. It does not ask you how much money you make. It does not ask you what your mortgage payment is.

It asks you have many people are living in your home. It asks the age and birthday of those residing in your home. It does ask the relationship to you of the people living in your home. It asks about your ethnicity. It asks for your phone number. It takes about 60 seconds to fill out and you're done. Unless, they are sending out different versions to different people, I'm not seeing what the big deal is here? Actually, I think I'm guilty of exaggeration. I think it took about 45 seconds to fill out, not 60.

None of the information you provide in the 2010 Census form can be accessed by Law Enforcement, IRS, Court system, or through the Freedom of Information Act until the year 2082. It does say that it is required by law to fill it out and send it in. However, I don't see them going out of their way to come knocking on your door if you don't send it in or leave certain fields blank.

You guys crack me up. Paranoid much?

Don't make me scan the form that clearly says their estimations say it takes about ten minutes to fill out. But then again we all know they based their time line on the rest of us and not you, oh great one...

Hmm...You take a pen and print a couple of names, DOB, fill in a phone number, and then X off a couple of boxes. I guess it might take 10 minutes to fill out if all your fingers were broken.

The more I read this thread the more I feel something is odd. I'm not sure we are all getting the same Census form? Some people have mentioned questions that were not in my form.

Its not paranoia.. Its the fact the government is going beyond their realm and flexing their muscles at everyone and they have no constitutional rights to. The point is to stick up for yourself and your rights and not let the government run you over...illegally.
