Any 97-03 F150 Owners In Here.......
I bought a 2001 Supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4 liter a sort time back. It's time for an oil change but not sure what weight of oil to use. The owners manual says 5-30 but the oil cap says 5-20. The sticker from the last oil change says they used motorcraft 5-20. I do live in South Texas & it is always HOT over here. Just wondering what you guys use?

about the only difference for a daily driven car/truck is you will get better fuel mileage out of 5/20 when the engine is cold. after the engine reaches operating temp, both oils are very similar in viscosity.
one thing to avoid in that 5.4 is anything thicker than 5/30 and excessive ragging when cold. ford designed the main/rod bearing oil feeds smaller than most manufacture's and the engines have a history of developing a bearing knock when thick oil has been used. When I was with Prestige Ford in the truck shop, ford would not warranty motors if thicker oil was used.

Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend is dirt cheap, and is a good oil.

2002 F-150 SuperCrew here with 5.4L. I have only used the Motorcraft 5w-20. It is good oil especially since it is a synthetic blend.

negative,
most cars and trucks were 5/30 thru 2003~ and some were 5/30 after. however i would still run 5/20 in them
