this might be a dumb question, but is a mouse 100% necessary to play?

How and or why is it so much better on a PC? I've seen lots of people state this, just never heard any valid reason to as why.

I would have to say that with a mouse you have much faster and precise control of whats going on especially aiming.

exactly- no matter how high you set your sensativity(sp) on a controller, itll never be as precise as a mouse

Also draw distances as so much betteron a PC. We can tell if a game is a console port if the game levels are smaller and if it cant handle hosting more than 16 players per game.

I'm used to 64 man BF2 servers, by god, lol.

It's just the power of a high end PC. Many reasons. The xbox runs at a proprietary 720p equivalent. The PS3 can run 1080P but without anti aliasing. A high end PC can run 4800P HD with anti-aliasing at a higher framerate and 4 times the draw distance. It's all relative. Simply put, the power of a PC is they are constantly evolving, and they have considerably more processing power than any console. But again, what does that even matter... you can easily download pirated games which makes the platform unappealing to developers and that is why PC games are dying off.

meh, not really man. Laptops don't really game that well. It's because of the video cards they usually have. That laptop has a Radeon HD 3650 512mb - I believe that's a shader set 3.0 card, but I know it's only DX9. Right now ATI is in the 5 series of cards which sport 2-4 times as much memory as that one and are DX11. Like I was saying earlier - it's high end PC's that really shine compared to laptops. In reality that laptop has more processing power than any console, however the consoles are proprietary, so they can squeeze ever last ounce out of what they have. Will that laptop play COD4, I think it will, but Modern warfare... I would be apprehensive, it MIGHT play it at low detail, but theres no way it's going to hammer out high res high framerate graphics.

a 5 series will definitely take care of this game and then some. Previous COD's have always been very well optimized.

I wonder though, with no dedicated servers. I'm not sure if i'll be picking this up.
More than likely i'll pick it up on steam, but the lack of dedicated servers is killing me.

Those 5770's are great for the price. Its definitely going to be a red christmas for me, unless NV comes out with something better than the whitepapers they're releasing on Fermi. I'm eyeing dual 5890's (5970x2's basically, going by their new naming scheme) once released. My GTX 285's need to be retired.

Yeah I got a couple more feet too but wont do me any good. Between the 122" screen and floor standing speakers I have pretty much used up the whole wall. Crazy how quick you get used to the screen size though, I cant picture watching tv or playing games on a 36" tube tv anymore.

The cost of bulbs keeps things in perspective for me

I'm on my 2nd bulb now. I prefer to use my LCD when I'm by myself, I sit right in front of it, doesn't bother me too much. But when I have people over, I play on the projector. You can get the screen too large though - I had mine mounted too far back a few months ago and you had to look left to right to see a conversation between two people. I found 115" to be the best for my room size. For games I bring the screen down 24" lower.

Yeah I checked the hours on my current bulb and Im already at 1100 hours. Crazy considering the setup is only about 6 months old. We use it for our primary tv though and this projector is rated to 4000 hours between bulb changes and on top of that I got a free bulb with a mail in rebate.

Man I sort of hope they don't, it would help me save money. Fermi's white paper's look fucking ridiculous though.

Once I decide on what i'm getting, i'll shoot you a PM.

I don't want to buy yet, if I go ATi until stock is more readily available. I'm sick of paying the premiums, so i'm giving it a few till late dec.

I won't use my projector as my primary TV because of past experiences. After 2-3 bulbs I started having voltage irregularities in the internal LCD. The extreme heat isn't nice to the internals in projectors - they don't last anywhere near as long as a projector television would. I was originally under the assumption you just kept buying new bulbs to your heart's content. From my own experiences you're lucky if it survives 4-5 bulbs.
