I can't believe Florida let this slide
so for those of you who haven't seen or heard about it Brandon Spikes made as far as I'm concerned a blatant attempt to blind Ealey the RB from Georgia on saturday. Anyway Florida came out a bit ago and announced they will suspend him for the first half of the next game. That's complete bullshit as far as I'm concerned. The guy from Oregon, whos name escapes me, is out for the year and this kid gets 1/2 of a game.
my phone won't post the vid so if you haven't seen it just search brandon spikes georgia on youtube

this reminds me of when I was in school and that kid at Lake Highlands High school made that other kid blind at a game doing the same thing over some gang bs and he went to jail. I'm not saying this warrants that big a punishment but what they handed out was just so they could say they did something about it

I don't disagree with that, I'm not not willing to go that far personally since I don't know the whole story. I only know what I saw in the vid and heard on espn. I do think wether he hurt him permanently or not ( you can see him grabing at spikes' hand in obvious pain) there should be assault charges filed. I don't care how barbaric this sport is you still have to follow the laws of society and decent human behavior

Is it a shitty thing to do? Yes. Does it warrant more than a half game suspension? Yes. Does he need to go to jail? No. I think a 3 or 4 game suspension is a fitting punishment. You need the minimum amount of punishment necessary to teach a lesson, at least that's what I think. A 1/2 suspension won't make him think twice about it, but throwing the book at him won't do him any good either.

Maybe a Vandy player will be able to accidentally spike Spikes hand during the game.

lol...@ the wanting charges brought up by the UT faithful, but when UT was ready to play the rose bowl for the title, and two of their DB's got into a fight at a bar, it was ok and no charges should be brought up.
he should be kicked off for the rest of the year, he is a senior, but there are worse things that happen on a football field than this, hell hockey players use sticks to hit or slash players. the only problem with that video it is slow motion and looks like he is doing that with the intent to do so, but I want to see it at full speed. I can't remember which game it was a year or two ago, but in slow motion it looked like a player was headhunting and with intent to hurt, then they showed the play at full speed and you could see that the player went high and the other player went low and the hit was to the head. The player was booted from the game and the NFL came back and said it was a bad hit but should have not been ejected and no fine for the player, should only be a 15yrd foul. but from what little I have seen I would have booted him at least till bowl game, or the season. but a half game is not strong enough.

A guy that does that on a football field and gets a little hand-slap, will do it again. A 1/2 game suspension is a joke, but jail time? I think a 3-4 game suspension would be adequate for a first offense. The second time he does something that extreme, he should be banned.

Please stop. Seriously, just stop. He should've been suspended for at least 2 games. That would've been sufficient.

And to Cartman: Quote me where I said it was okay what happened prior to the Rose Bowl. Oh wait, you can't. You can find a full speed video very easily if you want to, not sure why as you can seem him forcing his hand into the face mask. |

I don't hate UT, I do hate UT fans that are blinded to their team only, those fans are worse than OU and USC fans. I agree he should have been suspended for at least 2 or 3 games if not forever, he is a senior and is gone after the bowl game. I still want to see it at full speed and then judge. But UT fans on here, some not all, need to step back and take in more than all things UT.

You don't see a difference between that and trying to gouge someone's eyes? I realize that a ton of this is "part of the game" (see: hockey), even the gouging of eyes is being called by some as "part of the game". But a beaning pitch doesn't stand to have the long lasting, possibly career ending affects that eye gouging does. I'd say it's a slighty different, much dirtier, much more mallicious level.

The travesty here is that the SEC has let it go. I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but this in my eyes just goes to show that they favor Florida. This goes back to the two HORRIBLE calls that the refs made in the Florida/Arkansas game that cost Arkansas the game. There was another horrible call in another Florida game. The SEC is in bed with Florida, and I just don't understand why people are letting the SEC get away with this..

Why would you not want something punished by the team or NCAA on an assault happening on the field. I see it more fit for them to punish things that happen on the field and not in a bar where the law needs to step in and not NCAA. I guess just because someone says this guy needs to be suspended games or be charged they are UT fans? I think you should step back and take in more things than just bashing on UT.

ATHENS, Ga. -- A most unlikely person came to the defense of Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was suspended for half a game for apparently trying to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey. Ealey said Tuesday he doesn't believe Spikes should have been suspended. In fact, Ealey seemed surprised the play from Saturday's game drew so much attention. SEC blog Low ESPN.com's Chris Low writes about all things SEC in his conference blog. • Blog network: College Football Nation Florida coach Urban Meyer on Monday suspended Spikes for the first half of this week's game against Vanderbilt after the defensive captain stuck his hand in Ealey's helmet and appeared to try to stick his fingers in Ealey's eyes. Ealey says he doesn't agree with those who have said the suspension was not stiff enough. "That really didn't matter to me," Ealey said of the suspension. "That's their decision. He shouldn't, I think, get suspended at all. We were just out there playing football." Ealey said he had his eyes closed when Spikes stuck his hand in his helmet and he wasn't hurt. "He really didn't gouge my eyes," Ealey said. "He really didn't get a chance to get close to my eyes." The freshman said he believes similar incidents happen all the time. "I'm pretty sure it goes on back and forth," he said. "We probably do it and other teams do too. It's all football. We're just out there trying to have fun." Top-ranked Florida beat Georgia 41-17. The Bulldogs play Tennessee Tech on Saturday. On Monday, Spikes issued an apology. "I accept responsibility for my actions and I accept the consequences of my actions," Spikes said. "I would like to apologize to my team and the coaching staff and Washaun Ealey. Football is a very physical and emotional game, but there is no excuse for my actions." The Southeastern Conference issued a statement on Monday saying it reviewed and accepted the discipline handed down by Florida. Meyer said he believed Spikes retaliated after getting his helmet ripped off and eye poked earlier in the game. Georgia coach Mark Richt said Spikes' "helmet went flying off ... and there was one time he got hit with his helmet off." "It was totally unintentional," Richt said. "They were totally just playing ball. That might have got him bent out of shape. I don't know about all of that." Ealey carried 17 times for 70 yards against the Gators. "It was just a lot of emotion in the game," he said. "We were out there fighting. It was a big rivalry game. Everybody was just out there talking trash back and forth. ... We were just out there playing football and having fun." |

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - With all the negative attention "weighing heavy on his heart," Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes asked to serve a full-game suspension for apparently trying to gouge the eyes of a Georgia running back.
I wonder how they got him to ask... |

kwikstang91 not bashing UT, pointing out how the people in here calling for police or susp forever are the same people who were just fine with the two players that commited assult before a game but got 0 punishment by all. if you want to call it bashing ut go ahead but it is showing how most ut fans in here see it one way only. I stated based off slo mo I think he should have susp at least till the bowl game if not forever(guess my love of the SEC blinded me there) but until I see it at full speed I won't say it was or wasn't done with intent. after reading the UGA player and coaches statements on this seems the slo mo might not tell the true story, that or the SEC and Media are forcing them to say that because it is set up for UF to win it all again and become the best team to ever play NCAA football....lol.
