are you supposed to tip installers? We are having uverse installed and are debating as to whether it is customary or not. If so, how much?

TIA!

I don't.

Mainly because I can do that shit by myself. Now if they're moving some heavy shit and installing it, I most definitely do.

he called about 45 minutes before he headed this way to give me notice and he's been very nice. He even tuned my son's guitar while he is waiting for stuff to program (without our initiating it) so I'm inclined to just didn't know how much. Thanks!

I've never even thought about tipping a cable or phone installer. They get paid pretty well for the service and it's expected that everything will work perfect the first time. You shouldn't expect a tip for doing your job as described, I mean you can't get money back if the guy is an idiot and cuts your phone line or every time it rains your TV quits working and they have to send someone back out to fix it.

She went ahead and gave him $10.. He set up 4 tv's, 5 computers and was really cool.. Even hooked my son up with a wireless card for his computer (his has been crapping out and was having trouble getting set up).

Now we just have to figure out how to work this new shit.

So that explains the $20 I had in my bra when we left your house last week. It all makes sense now.

The video on demand ROCKS! I'm not liking how only the main TV where the DVR is connected is the only one that can pause/ff/rewind. All of ours used to do it so that's going to suck, but the tech said there is an upgrade in the works to allow them all to do it.

The menu is going to take some time to get used to, but there are a lot more HD channels on here than we had on dish (we got the closest comparable channel package that we had before) so that's good.

It's something new and I don't always adjust well to newness so I'll have to get used to it before I make an acurate review.

i dont see anyother reason to tip anyone else, especially if youre making a decent hourly wage.

There were a few things he did that went above what was required of him and he did a great job. We ended up giving him $10. Might be helpful in the future-he gave us his number in case anything ever went wrong or we needed anything.

I like to give a little extra to show my appreciation when someone goes above and beyond. Small gesture for such a good return. It makes me feel good.

I called you guys today to get a BAN downgraded to a 19/2 because the prem tech did not want to install it with the 85% cap and only 29 max rate. I was told NO can't do it unless you have 90% cap. What kinda crap is that?

Oh and Leah the prem techs are very underpaid, I can't say what they are paid but is almost 1/2 what a Install repair tech makes. So a tip for them if they did a good job in your opinion would be welcomed by any of them.

Do you work there? I have a few questions. I pm'd the guy that said he was a tech. I'll see if I get a response from him.

Like I said, he did an excellent job and was very friendly. We felt he deserved something extra.

I am in I/R and a Uverse repair tech, the prem techs put in helper tickets for us to come out when they have trouble getting sync to the side the house. I don't work on the box's inside the house. But ask away and if I can help I will.

I need to know how we can solve this problem we're already running into. There are 5 of us in this house and after we set up all our DVR shows, there's 2 shows being recorded during prime time on most days. We ran into this tonight where the boys couldn't change the channels because 2 HD shows were recording and my daughter was watching an on-demand show.

With the dish, we had one DVR in the living room that was usable on our bedroom TV and the living room and another one in my son's room which was shared between the two boys. It was perfect!

Soooo...can we get more than one DVR in the house? If so, would that increase our ability to watch/record more things at once? I'm already frustrated and ready to go back to dish.

With rabbit ear antenna with foil at the end, all of us watched Sabado Gigante on it

You can have 4 live streaming shows, and you can watch 4 pre-recorded shows on the DVR. So a total of 8 max tv's at once.

I had U-Verse for about 2 weeks. It wasn't all they advertised it to be. For one thing, I spent the money for 3 HD televisions, and could only watch one at a time. They finally admitted that I was too far from some box or switch for it work properly. Kind of pissed me off after dropping Dish and going to all that trouble. I had lots of problems with the tv picture freezing up for like 15-20 minutes at a time. By the time it stopped, the show I was watching was over. And the problem of not being able to pause or rewind on any set except one was an issue. I went back to Dish, but I kept the internet service and the phone service.

i dont see anyother reason to tip anyone else, especially if youre making a decent hourly wage.
Don't forget porters, cab drivers and shuttle bus drivers. Hell I've been in a helicopter before with a tip jar. If the pilot was more than just a pilot and offered something beyond what I expected then he gets a tip.

I have a feeling we're going to do the same thing. I'm not digging the TV, but I'm loving the internet.

Right. Dish spoiled me. But the internet is great.

I always give them some kind of tip but if they don't have any parmesan cheese or pepper packets then it goes down considerably. Keep in mind that your local Domino's driver could very well be the same guy kicking in your door to steal all your stuff next week. Meth and crack heads need jobs too and Domino's is about the only place that will always hire them.

Yes - I tipped the Fios guy that came out to my place for the install....and do it before he finishes too.

We had had the internet service before the TV service....he looked over the other stuff even though he didn't have to. Replaced my router with a better one, then also handed me one new in the box and said "here, keep this around in case you ever need it". He also gave me some extra HDMI and RCA cables. It was $20 well spent for me.

Our ONLY complaint with dish was losing signal during rain and storms. Because of all of the trees around our house there is only one spot where the dish is mountable and it is not that great. It didn't use to be too bad, only out with the worst of the storms and ony shortly, but now, because of the trees, it's losing signal all the time.
