Arrow Discount Tire - Warranty Issue

My Accord has some 2.5 year old Yokohama tires on it. They have 22,000 miles on them, and are warrantied for 60,000 miles. These were purchased with the road hazzard certificate from Discount Tire when new.

Yesterday I noticed that the tires are cracked badly... all four of them. They look like they are 6 years old, not 2.

I stopped at Discount Tire today and they said the certificates do not cover cracking or rotting, only punctures. They said they would give me a 40% credit for what I paid towards another set.

I think that with the certificates I should be covered for my original purchase price 100%.

I'm gonna call and make a complaint, anyone ever deal with this before?

They go by the wear of the tire. You're never going to be covered 100% unless you get a flat in their parking lot driving the car out with the new tires they just installed.

i've never dealt with this before, but i'm having the same issue...i have a set of bfg tires on my truck that i purchased about a year ago and they're already cracking on the sidewalls. a friend pointed it out, and all of them look that way. i was thinking about doing the same thing, but i haven't gotten around to it yet. i guess i have my answer now, though.

and i believe that the 60k warranty is through the tire manufacturer not discount tire, their road hazzard warranty covers other things

That I can understand. If they are giving me a 40% credit, I would assume that means the tires are 60% worn.

They are more like 40% worn, I want at least a 60% credit.

Discount Tire half assing something? No way.

After my last dealing with them, I won't ever, ever go back.

I swear by the warranty from Discount. I've gotten at least 6 free ass tires from it.

poke 4 holes in the sidewalls and be done with it.

when i was in highschool they screwed up and sold a buddy a pair of 555r's with a full warranty. he must have been thru 5 or 6 pair before they finally said no more.

You can measure the tread and calculate that fairly easily. That might be a big bargaining chip for you.

Whatever "certificate" you bought probably has exclusions, and they aren't going to pay if it is listed as an exclusion no matter what you think they should do. I would read through the contract you purchased/signed and see what the rules are to see if you might be missing an avenue to get it paid for.

They may be showing signs of aging because they sold you and old set of tires. I remember reading something on here about how tires only last 6 years and that tire shops are not supposed to sell you an old pair of tires.

There is some code on the inside sidewall of the tire that shows the month/year of when the tire was made. Do a search on here and see if you can find it and then check your tires for their date of build and if its more than a few years old I would take that information with you when you go back to the store and they "should" replace them for you for free.

Interesting.

Less than two weeks ago, I found out all of my tires were cracked badly on the inside sidewalls. They are less than a year old, but I figured there isn't really shit I can do about it. They are Sumitomos, or something like that.

Spending $1k+ on tires every year is getting old.

Here is a link I found on google about reading tires manufacture dates.

We put so many miles on tires, they don't have time to dry-rot, etc. I DO know that Discount Tire has NEVER given me any problems on tire issues/warranties and have always been more than fair.

Rather than giving me a 40% credit on what I paid for the tires (~$30 per tire) they gave me 50% off new tires (~$60 per tire).

Got them installed, and I'm happy now.

Do you have the Yokohama yk520 tires? My fiance has these on her car, they are a little over 2 years old and the front right has cracks in it as well with 32k miles on them. I also got the certificates and was wondering about this....

Sucks they won't replace the tire, I had one a few months ago slashed through the sidewall because of road debris and they replaced it no problems. I guess I'm gonna have to do the same with the cracked one...

Yup, Yoko 520's. I had about 22K on mine, 2.5 years old.

Brad... Discount wont mess with it anymore. I had cracking sidewalls around the wheels on my old 06 truck and they warrantied them. Adding up I think BFG did not credit them back the money because they determined it was still an "Ok" tire. Many people have tried to warranty these BFG's and not having anymore luck.

Wade had 7000 miles on his tires on his new mega and they denied him. And for what its worth, my truck tires are cracking on the sidewall around the wheel and have 66k miles on them and are fine.

I bought some Goodyear Eagles last fall from Discount for $150 a piece. They were the hot shit all season performance series Eagles. They only lasted 21K on a 40K mile warrany with regular rotations (every 5K miles or so). I mean these tires were bald. They gave me $60 a tire credit towards a new set. I wanted $75 per tire but I didn't push it.

I didn't have any replacement certificates or anything. It was straight manufacturers warranty.

Always look for a DOT number (usually near the bead of the tire; where rim meets tire) the last four digits are what matter and tell you the manufacture date, they should only be numbers, no letters. If you show only 3 digits then your tire is over 10 years old. First two digits tell you which week of a certain year the tire was made and the last two tell you what year. Hope that helps.

Other than the cracking they have been excellent on my fiance's car. They are quiet and I wouldn't be surprised if I could get another 15k-20k out of them (shocked because I've never rotated them lol).

I'm buying tires for my ride this weekend and these were on the top of my list because of how well they have done on hers. The cracking issue is holding me back though...

I've never had an issue with discount tire, and i've gotten free service from them when I carried a set of slicks up there to be mounted. Dude did it for free while we shot the shit about racing.

I bought a set of their house brand "premium" SUV tires ($600 set). They wore the hell out way before they were supposed to, so I went up there and bitched. The manager came out, measured the tire wear, and offered a decent adjustment for a new set.

Discount tire generally makes me happy.

I actually just placed an order with tirerack.com for a set of Micheline Pilot Sport A/S Plus. They only have a 45k mile warranty but if they only make it to that point I'm fine with that.

But don't do them all at once, do them about a month apart and go to a different one everytime, make up some bs story I were at the store and notice that one j just did was low.

I've been doing it for years and they have never said anything but I do one each a month or two apart

Just FYI don't do right the sidewall.

Do it where the sidewall and tread meets, on the curve part. That way it looks like you ran over a nail
