was thinking about an off road GTG nov7-8

Red River would be my first choice, this is also depending on the weather. Just giving you guys plenty of notice. all rides welcome, and all skill levels welcome. I am not a top grade rider for sure, but i can find those who wish to test them selves plenty to do so on. or i can take an easy tour guide style ride. i am hoping to be out there for two days, so hopefully most everyone can make it out.

I'd be down to go if it's the 7-8. I'll keep an eye on this thread. I'm down by Houston riding the National Forrest right now.

How is it? I've been meaning to make the trip, I'd just hate to drive around Houston with my 4 wheeler in the bed.

Just heavy wooded winding trails. There are no hills or anything like that. You will run into plenty of downed trees to ride over or perhaps around them. I've only rode a few of the loops (around 30-40 miles). The total length of the trail system is 85 miles I believe. We only ran into two dirt bikes while we were out there. I would consider the trails to be good for beginners but can be fun for more advanced riders too, you may just get bored.

My brother in laws parents live off the national forest so we ride from their land onto the national forest trails.

If the weather is looking good and everyone is set on 7th-8th then I'll see about it. It would be nice to save $10 for the 2 days of riding.

Looks like the same thing that happened to the blaster. There is a nick in the gear that i didn't notice until i installed it and turned the motor. Every time it passes by that nick it makes that knocking noise and somebody has already done a pretty good job of dressing it up.

I might still be ok for the 14th if i can find one cheap enough.

Yup, 2008 250XCW e start. Sweet bike. All the goods like my last bike had: rekluse, steering stabilizer, suspension revalved, ect.

Actually I think I may ride somewhere local, like Village Creek so I can feel the bike out and make sure there are no problems with it.

Does this place require helmets and gear ? I'm thinking about going but don't have a helmet or the protective riding gear. A friend said that he would loan me his four wheeler, so I have a ride just not the other stuff.

Even if it doesn't you are stupid if you ride without a helmet and goggles. I don't see those as being optional, one stray rock from a quad in front of you or a branch to the face and you'll be blind. No to mention if you actually crash into a tree or something.

Well you are stupider !!! J/K I understand what you are saying, I'm just starting to get into ATV ridding. I did not want to go out and buy a new helmet for one day of ridding, but your point is well taken. Why take a chance and cause more brain damage to myself.

If you'd ever ridden the trails you'd understand. Lots of low hanging branches, sticker bushes, rocks getting thrown, dust, etc... I've whacked my head hard enough to break the visor off my helmet. Without it I probably would have spent some time in a wheel chair drooling on myself.

Helmets are a must. And after last time riding (first time with boots) - im buying boots this week. They're uncomfortable at first, but just the extra protection and confidence it gives you made me feel better with them on.

And just to add what others have said, if you don't have a helmet and goggles there is no way you could keep up with the group. You would have to be so far behind that you would lose us. The dust that kicks up makes goggles a must and the helmet goes without saying. Go buy a helmet and goggles even if you don't have a quad yet. It will be the best investment besides a good pair of boots that you can make.
