Smelly hippies, lesbians, annoying Tx/OU fans, woo chics and Dirk Nowitzski
Nothing like a good ole Black Crowes show to bring them all together. Quite an interesting crowd last night to say the least. Good times and good rock and roll.

I've been to several Black Crowes' shows - and I'm talking about back in the 90s at the Bomb Factory, and Trees... back when that scene was REALLY happening. The Crowes always put on a fucking great show. Chris Robinson was pretty strung out back then and was signing and performing like an angst ridden blues therapist who practically laid down on the stage and cried through a song or two. I always thought - "man, they get IT", whatever IT is...
I think maybe you were at my house when I was watching an HD concert.....? Dropping off a part or something, but it's been quite a while. Can't remember if it was you, but I think whatever you said impressed upon me that you appreciated the straight ahead rock and roll that they played.. and I thought to myself, anyone that speaks up about the Crowes is a cool mofo in my book. When when they first came out, I was so fucking happy that a band still existed that understood what groovy rock and roll was... and played and sung from the gut, with feeling and sweat. I had tickets back in 2000 or so.... Jimmy Page was with them and they were doing a Led Zep tour. Stuff I heard in advance sounded like a bluesy Led Zep show.... with a little bit of slop but a whole lotta groove to lay down for us all. Too fucking bad Jimmy busted his finger or his arm or something, and the show at Reunion was cancelled forever. Damn it!! If I had the slightest idea you were going out there, I woulda begged to tag along.... ...seeins' how we're neighbors and all. I remembered hearing a small snippet about them coming, and making a mental note...oh well. Last edited by 93LXHORSE; 10-19-2009 at 12:55 AM. |

Exactly. They have a complete OTHER side that you'd never know about unless you listened to their album or saw them live...
Same kinda thing with the Stones. People say the Stones suck because all they ever here is "Start Me Up"....... or some other radio burnt song. |

They've got tons of great music that people won't get exposed to relying on the radio. Me and guy I grew up with have gone to see them every time they come to town for years now.
For me Amorica, Three Snakes and One Charm, and Lions is their best work and 10 times better live. Their albums have never done their music justice. The live shows have always been amazing. What's cool about the latest album, Before the Frost....Until the Freeze, is that they found a huge barn in the mountains and recorded each song in that barn in front of a live audience. The inspiration in the music is a little different and not my favorite but still cool nonetheless. If this stupid sub forum would let me embed I would post a series of youtube videos from an episode of Unplugged they did for VH1 back in March. It's great compilation of some of their better work. Here is the link on their website. You'll have to put up with a cheesy commercial before each song but it's well worth it. http://www.vh1.com/video/play.jhtml?...550&vid=216662

I haven't kept up with the Crowes in years but they were somewhat broken up due to the differences between the brothers Robinson at several points while Chris was banging Kate Hudson. To this day, I still hate that bitch.

There was a time where they both decided to take on solo projects. Chris married Kate in '00 and they released "Lions" in '01. In '02 the drummer, Steve Gorman, bowed out and Chris decided to start a solo project, which I'm sure pissed off Rich, and he followed suit with a solo deal of his own. That lasted until '05 then the brothers got back together and a few shows later Gorman came back and it's been on ever since.
