Pop-ups when you're not using the computer??

I'll use the computer, leave it on and then come back later that day and there will be these little annoying pop ups everywhere and I won't even have anything open. :mad: How the hell do I get rid of them?

there are programs that are on you computer, most likely, included with some software downloaded from the net, or from kazaa.

only one i can think of off the top of my head is like GATOR, there are alot of them though.

Get AdAware, and get rid of any spyware lurking on your system.

What does the pop up look like? Does it look like a windows error pop up and only thing you can do is say ok?

If you've got a broadband connection then you need a firewall or you will get popup's the look like windows system or error messages.

Turn the messaging service off if you have w2k or win xp. Right click my computer do manage and then expand services and applications. Click on services and look for messenger service. Go into properties of that service and disable and stop it. End of the pop ups.

Go through your Add/Remove programs and kill anything that you don't recognize. You'll know you removed the offending program when it throws up a webpage "Did you not mean to remove this program? :( "

there was something on the news the other nite about popups, there was one that dialed out and charged a bunch of people money. Shit sucks.
