On Plano Rd this morning, I raced a lowered Silver +99 GT w/ a Bassani Exhaust sticker on the quarter panel window. He pulled up next to me at the redlight on the south side of 635. When the light turned green, I pulled away from the light at half throttle to see if he wanted to play. I heard him hit the throttle, waited for him to catch up to me and then mashed the gas. I put a car on him and let off the gas a bit to just stay ahead of him. But when I shifted into 2nd, he got ahead of me. So I accelerated pass him and let off in the top of 2nd.
I tried to give him a thumbs up, but he made a U turn really fast. He may work at Motion Cyclesports on the SE corner of Plano and 635.
I'm still undefeated against SOHCs, although I'm sure you guys will say I choose to only race the slow ones as though I have Miss Cleo sitting in the passenger seat telling me the 1/4 ET and MPH of each Mustang that pulls up to me.

what were they running in that? was it 12.02 N/A? i can't remember, but it seems like it was something like that. david ran 11.9 @~117 N/A 2-3 years ago, in his Z28. i'm not trying to offend anyone, but you and i both know that he's not running 13.7@102! i've come to the realization that, to make these SOHC cars fast, it takes a lot of dough, because even if you have a blower or nitrous, the motor won't last long unless it's built.:(

They were on motor I believe, with a full interior, david had some peices 'stolen' from his interior and I believe he had some other weight reduction going on, at the down hill track. But still, 12.02's is pretty good!

No HPP has bored or stroked the car out to a 300ci or more and has a transbrake w/ 4.56 gears. Their last 1/8 that i know of is a 7.30 something, with a 1.4x 60'
It's all whored out! ;)

hpp deffinitely knows how to make a mod motor fast, but i sure wouldn't want to be driving that car around on the street everyday.;) anyway, it goes back to what i said before, if you want to go fast in a mod motor, be prepared to spend some dough! by the way, the 300ci isn't a stroker, it's a big bore, and i mean BIG! it leaves hardly any metal at all between the sleeves! the only one that i've seen was in MM&FF, though.

I wonder if they've had any problems with dropping the sleeves or leaking? Most of the bored LS1's are re-sleeved.
But now that I think about it. The SOHCs are iron blocks right? So that makes it easier than doing aluminum ones.

i was assuming that they used a Cobra block for the 300CI for weight savings (alluminum), but yes, the SOHC blocks are iron.

I am currently trying to decide whether to start a project car....69 BigBlock conversion......or buy some more useless mods for my 00GT.
the 69 in question is VERY rough but could be made fast for probably about $5k. It has a 429 but can't verify if it is rebuildable. Either way it would make a nice drag car.

Well, some 4.6's are fast.......if the driver can drive and the car has traction. A stang with gears is "quick", but I can't keep the tires on the ground in first without heavy work on the throttle. Same in second some times. Now at the track on slicks, the car flat hauls..........for a 4.6.
Oh well, to each his own and LS1's are great engines....they are just wrapped in crap. 4.6's are getting faster. We just have to spend more and risk the equipment more and learn to drive better. Hell, at least my car SOUNDS fast and not like a damn truck!!!!:D

In a word, Yes, C5's are crap. Abuse that car like some of us do to mustangs and start thinking about the high cost of repair bills on that C5. Have you priced a clutch on a Vette? Or a differential? You really don't see too many people breaking them because they are AFRAID to!!! Mustangs are cheap, they take SOME abuse and are (WERE) not expensive to mod the shit out of.
As for being proud of the 13.0, yes I am. Given that the car only has 250 rwhp, is shaped like a brick and still rides on the same chassis as a 78 Fairmont.......Not too shabby!!! Take into account how little I have spent on this car compared to those running deep into the 12's with a 4.6, you then start to see that it is about getting everything you can out of 281 cubic inches.
Besides, most of you guys that bought Vettes probably paid $40k plus for that car and they run what 13.0's on street tires stock? I paid $19k for my GT NEW and have less than $2500 into it most of which was repairing broken parts due to HEAVY use. Shit if I had $40k in my GT, I had better be seeing about 900hp.......
On the F-body, most spent $28-30k for an SS? They run shitty 1/8 miles and run high 12's stock.......for $10k more than a GT they should.
Bye the way, the sig check was for SLOW 4.6's and not for the Mighty LS1's out there.

The bullshit flows from your mouth aggie97. I picked my car up for 29K after tt&l with 13K miles and 1 year left on the warrenty and the car has a good resale value. Yes I've priced a clutch and all the other part since I put a new one in shortly after getting the car. You pay to play and I would much rather drive a vette than a damn GT mustang.
BTW my SS went 8.30@87 with nittos and bolt-ons with a 2.0 60ft.

aggie97, I'm and aggie, and I love mustangs, but C5s aren't crap. They are awesome cars. Sure new ones cost around 40k, but so do new Cobras. You can pick up used ones in the mid to low $20k's
And how are repairs on C5s any more than a Mustang? A good clutch for our cars is upwards of $300 plus install if you are lazy. I don't think it'd be much more than that on a Vette. You COULD spend way more.
I've spent over $8k alone on replacing motors, and over $1k easy on replacing trannies and rearends. Not to mention all the hundreds or thousands I've spent on fixing other little things. And as long as you can do the work yourself, I think most normal wear parts for both cars are pretty much the same.

http://texas-speed.com/ They designed a new lid for f-bodys and have built some badass cars. I've been friends with them since I moved to Lubbock, and their cutting me a kickass deal. Their a dealer for all mti products, plus a in house dyno(only one for 100's of miles), and full LS1 edit tuning.

As far as driving a GT, it is not a daily driver.....it sits in the garage all week and sometimes for 2 weeks at a time. I have a nice truck I drive everyday. Cars are terrible investments and that is why I don't spend big money on cars. I could afford a brand new M5, Z06 or even a Porsche, and that would be very fucking cool, however, I would not even dare take any of those cars to a construction site or to the track for that matter for fear of fucking it up. I could really give a shit if something breaks on the GT because it is not my only ride and it is cheap to fix.
To all....I just don't get LS1 drivers. They all have this attitude that they are the biggest billy badasses in town. I think even the punk ass Mustang drivers on this site are more laid back.
Hey david... this guy goes to UTD with me. He's on silver 98 cobra R's from his previous mustang. It's not really that fast either... just sounds good. A kill is a kill is a kill though. He posts on here just not very much.

Brandon, based on every other blown 2v car I've seen, I predict redlaserstang's ~550rwhp car will be trapping less than 122mph in the 1/4 if it weighs 3500lbs. Peak numbers are nice, but pay attention to the area under the curve. The blown 2Vs on the board with 400-420rwhp were only trapping 112-114mph.
