Computer crashed!?!?

My PC was just on with nothing running. Just the desktop was visible. All of the sudden the screen went black. I turned it off and then back on again. When it used to boot up it would show the memory, drives, etc check. Now it only shows one line of text. It say Copyright Intell 99-00 and that's it. It will not even finish checking anything else and everything is unresponsive. Any ideas? How can I tell if the hard drive crashed, memory, or possible motherboard. I have to get this thing up and going soon for classes.

If you dont get any bios messages or post beeps, your Mobo is probably fried. It could be memory or a CPU as well. Try unplugging it from the wall, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in.

Thanks! I tried unplugging it. It still does it. I will swap out to some old mem. sticks and see what happens. If that does not work how can I tell if it is the mother board or the hard drive? I would not know which mother board I would need if that is the case. How can I tell which one I need to buy if that's the problem?

I would try re-setting the BIOS first. Also check for boot sequence.

Thanks for the replies guys. I got it fixed last night. It turned out that the RAM connectors needed some cleaning. I popped out the RAM, clean the connectors and that was it. It fired up fine after that. Thanks again. Glad it was a simple problem.
