A turbo SVO wants to race me for $$$

A turbo 4-cylinder SVO wants to race me for some money. This guy at work knows the guy with the Mustang. He claims its all stock and the owner is really confident that he will beat me. \

If I race, it will be in my 1999 6-speed Z28 with exhaust, lid, filter.

How did those SVO's run? Were they easy to make fast?

Any info is appreciated.

Just like any 15 year old turbo car, watch your ass. Chances are he knows how fast LS1's are and he's probably confident you'll lose. I have an AWD turbo 4 and I dont randomly call out large displacement V8s. Especially ones with the top end power of the LS1. If I do call one out, I generally like to know the outcome before it happens. I'm not saying you will lose, I'm just giving you the other side's point of view.

$200, the guy I know at work knows him and he said he's kind of crazy, and he said when the owner races his SVO, he never shifts out of 3rd because he doesn't want to lose power and just lets it redline.

why doesn't he just get a cam that makes a shitload of power up top. thats what i did. powershift, boost, repeat as nescessary.

He's only had the car for a couple weeks and the guy is parting it out. He plans on racing me with no doors on it!! The guy at work that knows the owner said it looks beat up, but I guess you never know.

There are a few on this site with mustangs that look like they would barely run, but they sure do.

if its stock dont worry, the SVO's are slower than stock 5.0's. not sure how well they respond to certain mods but you should be safe, assuming you know how to drive.

Really? For every year the SVO was made its HP output matched the GT of the same year. With the exception of course of the 85.5 which didnt have a GT counterpart and was the highest powered and lowest production model.

i was talking about 87-93 5.0's. didnt even take in to consideration the earlier models. maybe i shouldve have. but still....LS-1 vs. SVO....shouldnt be worried. ive never been a huge fan of the pre 87' GT's. they look clean as hell if you can find one in good shape but for some reason ive like the 87 on fox's more.

if you really want to race him, race him for however much money that you're comfortable with losing. this way, if you win, you're that much ahead, and if you lose, it's not a big deal.;)

I would race him, if he says he is stock that is cool. But if when you race he kicks your ass hard you know he is not stock, so I wouldn't pay him.

Say what I say. I would love to race you, but I only race for fun. Then go race him. I have beat a few LS1 F-bodies with my SVO....But I have had a lot of LS1 F-bodies stomp me too. The SVO was a cool car, but look at it this way. It is a pinto engine with a hair dryer....how fast could it be?

Yes, that is a 4 cylinder 85.5 SVO. The engine just looks like it has a few extra pipes...that's all! haha

This is a friend of mine...and I think it's one of the two fastest SVO's in the country. Very cool car...I wonder what it would run without doors? Hmmmmmm.....
