Converting video signals

How do you convert a serial port video output from a laptop to an RCA connection?

I don't know that you can...I am guessing you want to hook your computer up to your tv right? The only way I know how is to have the proper video card. Check out ATI's stuff

Thats not a serial connection, its a vga connection.

TV Out aint cheap.

I actually didn't think it was that expensive. :( Is that the cheapest out there? I know my sister's laptop has an RCA output built into it where she can do slide shows etc directly into a TV.

You point is noted. For my application, it's not really for watching a DVD or anything. I'd just like to get the digital read out from the laptops datalogging on my screen.

well.. i was just speaking in over all.. just looking at a word documetn.. its hardly readable characters blend together... ive actually never tried to watch a DVD.

by the way.. the setup i have tried is a

GeForce 2, w/ S-Vid out... hooked up to a 55 Inch wide screen TV,... nothing is legible with the font.

This is the only setup i have tried, but i beleive if you have an HDTV, ATI offers a HDTV setup that can be hooked up to an HDTV, that might work better

just my insight; (you dont have to take it ;) )

The Scan Converters from my experience don't offer very good quality output ... though the last time I used one was years ago in High School.

Before you write off video out though, I'm using a 32" TV, w/ an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500. Got S-Video out going to the TV, and I've got the resolution set to 800x600. Text is very readable, I've done numerous posts on this board using that computer, and have used it to play video games, and dvd's with no problems. Even if text looks like shit, DVD's were meant for the TV, and TV out from your computer would still look excellent when playing DVD.

If I bump up to 1024x768, the text blurs a bit, but is still readable for the most part. I just keep it on 800x600 as that's closer to native NTSC resolution (720x480) ... and I've heard there are ways to make your video card display at non-standard resolutions (like 720x480). Whenever I decide to research that further, I'll probably set my resolution there. I was running it at 640x480 for a while, and the text was just that much more readable.

About the only time I'd switch to 1024x768 was when I use Gordian Knot ... but I just used it last night, and it fit perfectly in 800x600 ... so guess I don't need to switch that anymore :D

Now, composite/RCA out ... that looks like ass. At least for text. It's only readable at 640x480, and barely at that.

From the size of the screen (7"), to the shit quality of the VGA to RCA, I think it's not going to be worth it.

Ouch! Yeah, a 7" screen would be a bit too small to see anything.
