Tuesday: Blower Kit arrives at about 6pm. Work straight through. Car starts at 4am(wed-morning) N/A and seems fine. Woohoo!
Wednesday: Dallas wakes me up around 10am. Ugh. We run and get the necessary AN fittings and belts to hookup the blower. Car runs with boost at 5pm. Within 5 minutes an undercover police officer pulls me over. Thank god he just gave me a warning. Went home, loaded the trailer, and left for San Antonio around 8pm. Arriving at around 10pm, we hit up the Atrium, and then the Palace. Wow. Great times.
Thursday: Decide to hit up the dyno. 1st pull, 475 rwhp @4800rpm. Second pass is carbon copy. Third pass was almost the same-except as soon as the converter engaged 100%, there was a nice smoky burnout on the dyno. Heheh. Unfortunately I launched my starter and blew off some discharge tubing. On the dyno for less than 15 minutes, and DYNOTEX RACING still charged $95. Boycott Dynotex. :)
Later that evening I was at Home Depot sourcing new bolts for the starter and new terminals for the Alternator some guy walks up and starts commenting on me working on it in the parking lot. Turns out this guy was Chip Havemann. He invited me to go out and take a look at his new 25.2 car :).
Around 8pm I took the car out on a hour and a half drive and checked out Chips car. Stopped by a carwash on the way home and had NO problems at all. Setup was kinda fat, but safe :) Nightlife we hit Sherlocks and Mideveal (Sp?) Nights for a good time.
Friday: Get up, load the trailer, head to the track for the TRS shootout and prequalifying runs. Unload the trailer, go grab some food and parts, and head back towards the track. Once we get there I realize the car has NO oil pressure. GREAT. Ready to sit down and cry, some good friends suggest dropping the pan and checkin out whats up. About this time Phil cuts a 9.77@138. Talk about motivation :) Get the pan and pump off and realize the lower ear is MIA. Thats right, broke the oil pump where the pickup tube bolts up.
A little later Phil needs a battery cause his alternator broke :\. So I become WFO Parts car. Best news is the alternator has gone better than a 9.90 now. Phil wins the TRS shootout (with my alternator :) )
Saturday:Wake up and head to the track around 11:00. Get there at 1:00 and begin to relace the oil pump. True Street Cruise is at 2:30, Last chance to qualify for anything else is 3:00. Car is back together and running by 2:15-Just in time to miss the true street tech. I enter cheap street and make it to the lanes for qualifying, but blow a discharge tube off during my burnout.
Down but not out, I head back to the pits to reclamp the discharge tube and fix the oil leak they found at the line..
A few hours and a pulley change later I was ready to run. UNfortunately the track wasn't ready for me. I begged the tech guy to let me make a pass. and I finally did around 10:00pm
1.48 60-ft
6.6@104 1/8
10.3@129 1/4
Not the best, but the car was really fat and it was a nice first pass. Next time around I chunked the discharge tube again, during the burnout. That was it. Headed to the pits, fixed the problem and tried to get back in line with no luck.
That was my week. I'm about to go hit some streetraces and make a little cash :)
Thanks to everyone for their help-it was really great to see the team effort...especially on Phils alternator swap ;).
I'm not gonna name any names cause I'm sure I'll forget a few people so thanks to everyone. Regardless of making a single pass, I had a blast. See ya'll at the next one in H-town.
