Only record up to 24X? I updated the firmware, and I can only get up to 24X? Oh, my Media is also 40X speed.
Alot of times, It goes doen to 16X, then 12X, then up tp 20, and stays there?

I have had this problem for a while. thats why I updated the Firmware.

It also depends on how fast your computer is and how your hard-drives are configured. If its a cheaper drive, they wont go as fast as stated quite often. Sometimes it depends on the brand of disk as well.

I use TDK discs, and I have a P4 1.7 GHZ, 512 Ram, 140 GB Hdds. (2)

The Plextor is a really good company. I don't get why mine is so freakin slow.

what software are you using to burn, and are you doing test and burn or just burn?

Is the CDRW on the same interface as the HDD? try changing it however way it is now and see if that helps. What software are you using?

I had this problem a couple years ago, as chris says make sure that your cd-r and hd's are on different interfaces. That didn't seem to fix mine at first, however when I ran out of the cd's I was using (they we're stated to be 32x but would only burn at 16x) and purchased new ones, they recorded at 24x which is what my burner is rated at. On a lighter note, if you can get 16 - 24x it will burn a full 800mb cd in under 5 mins, which is fast enough for me :)

Isn't IDE a bitch? :D Anyway, that's what I'd suggest.

He is basically saying is your hard drive and cdrom plugged up on the same IDE cable, if it is, plug them up to seperate ones.

Yes, they are on the same ribbon. Ok, now the question is, the Ribbon goes from my MOBO, to my Master HD, to my slave HD, to my dvd rom and finallyto my CDRW, how do I isolate the CDRW?

Disregard..... My Hdd's are on one ribbon, and my CD-Roms are on another. It's still slow. I wonder if it's the drive itself

im going to guess its the cd's your using... Are they burnable to 48x?? CD's have a limit on them. I have some old ass 2x rw's and a 12/10/24 burner and it will only burn at 2x

No doubt :) I was used to 4x burns, and then jumped to 16x burns with my 24x burner (discs were rated at 12x), and just recently I've gone through those discs, and am now using the 40x rated discs I bought about 6 months ago, and burning at 24x. 5 minutes is definitely fast enough :) I'm even going to be buying a 16 - 24x when I build the home entertainment computer, to save some money versus buying a 40x.
