we run windows NT on our computers at work. is there a way to check what kinda software is running in the back ground. something tracks things, like internet usage? or even what you have saved like pictures or videos?

Download Startup Cop here:

Run it. It will show you everything that is running at startup and allow you to disable and delete things.
You may not be able to do much if you don't have administrator rights.

Just viewing the task manager will show you most everything. The rest will be in services.
But, if you dont have admin rights, you probably can't do anything about the programs running. An admin can get in and pretty much see anything you have saved with the right software. They can view what you are viewing and even record key strokes in extreme cases.

Most companies use a proxy server for internet access and this will allow them to monitor your internet usage.

It's not your computer that's monitoring traffic, it's at a router or firewall, proxy server, etc.
In other words, you're not gonna find out just snoopin... just ask, most network admins will tell ya straight up.
