Lot's of times when my computer is on, whether or not the web browser is open...a little box comes up, that looks like a warning box or a box to say an error is occurring, just a dialog box. There is no picture whatsoever.

It always says 'Messenger service' in the title bar' and has ads ranging from Hair Growth products for me all the way to college diplomas (typical junk mail shit).

How do I get rid of this? I dont remember downloading anything that would cause it...any ideas?

Thanks!
Shawn

If so, it's Messenger spam. Go into your control panel/admin tools and double click Services.

Scroll down to Messenger and stop the service. You can then disable it as well to further prevent the spam.

On of the many holes Microsoft has left open to the outside world.

Yup :) One of the first things I dissable whenever installing 2000 or XP. I'd never recieved spam on it, but I was tired of getting messages that so and so's APS backup just lost ac power, and is on battery power  Every 30 seconds. Until it finally went back on ac power, or finally drained it's battery power.
