Today I found out why I hated oatmeal when I was a kid...

Next time I buy a box, I'll open the box, throw away the oatmeal, and add a 1/2 cup of water to the box, stir, and heat...lol

Really though, am I just buying the wrong kind? (quaker is the only kind I know of)

Is there a 'Good' type of oatmeal to get?

IS there a different meal that I could eat in place of oatmeal? I dont think I could stand this stuff more than once a week...

Thanks!
Shawn

I always add just a little margarine and some Equal sweetner. That usually "livens" it up a bit. Granted the margarine isn't the best thing for a healthy diet so I usually try to cram it down without any. :(

I think I'd still rather just eat the box...lol

Plain oatmeal is a bit bland and somewhat of an aquired taste, but also beware of the flavored kind too, they put all sorts of refined sugar in there. To make mine a little more palatable in the morning I add a tablespoon of Glutamine, a scoop of protien (whatever flavor I have at the time, and a tablespoon or two of pure honey. The honey is a sugar, but it's alot better for you than the processed stuff(not quite as glycemic), and you can control the quantity so that your breakfast isn't super saturated in it.

hmmm, that's a pretty good idea.

I would never add margarine to anything. Butter is still ok if you don't use alot. Half a pat is more than enough and still not that high in fat. Everything in moderation is the key IMO.

I put in a few raisins and a dash of brown sugar for some taste, but damn oatmeal's still nasty :D

I can down it just fine without any mess. I'm gonna try the apples/cinnamon, though.

If you want good tasting oatmeal (read that bad for you) then do this: use the water and the oatmeal like normal then add about a 1/2 cup or a little more of milk and a couple of spools of margarine, and a lot of sugar. Tastes great but not somthing you need to be eating if you are trying to be all that healthy.

I did add a scoop of protein to it once and it made it taste "different". Might try that.

i eat instant maple and brown sugar pourage , not sure what the fat and sugar levels are but with a 1/2 cup of 1% milk the stuff is really good , i used to eat cream of wheat , but it takes longer to make ( ya have to boil on stove ) this with a teaspoon of brownsugar and 1/2 cup of 1% milk this is really good for breakfast on cold mornings .
